Magical Ideas for a “Mickey & Minnie Mouse” 3rd Birthday Party!
How to host a magical “Mickey & Minnie Mouse” themed birthday bash for your little Mouseketeer with do-able decor, punny snacks, and party games that are fun for all ages!
Party Theme
Pepper has been obsessed with Mickey & Minnie since she first saw the famous mice during her first trip to Disney World this winter.
And after having not one, but two character meet-n-greets with Mickey himself? Well, she’s a die-hard Mouseketeer for life!
So, we decided to keep the Disney magic going for her 3rd birthday pool party earlier this month!
Won’t you join us as we re-live the festivities through the sharing of so “minnie” photos? It’ll be mouse-tastic! {I will never not jam as many puns as possible into a blog post. But you know this by now. Tee hee.}
Video Montage
First up, I wanted to share the one minute video montage I made for Instagram to give you an overview of the party and usher us into the Disney spirit! Click HERE or the image below to watch it.
Then, you can read on for mouse-spiration for those of you planning your own “Mickey & Minnie Mouse” themed events.
*I’ve included affiliate links for your convenience. I’ve also complied an Amazon storefront with a handy collection of all the party supplies we purchased, which you can peruse HERE.
Invitation
We opted for a small family gathering at our home, and I whipped up an Evite using a design that included the red, black, white, and yellow color palette we went with. Gotta love that vintage Disney vibe!
Mouse-Cessories
Not gonna lie, I’m kinda-sorta proud of myself for thrifting both the polka-dotted dress and Minnie mouse shoes for Pepper’s party look!
And the mouse ears were one of the party favors we handed out to guests upon arrival. Thanks to Practical & Pretty for the free printable, “We’ve got ears, it’s time for cheers!”
Party Decor
The first party guest to arrive to Pepper’s Clubhouse was Mickey! (I am a sucker for walking balloons apparently.) The massive balloon was an Amazon find that I had blown up at our local Party City along with a few other black balloons.
Pepper loved giving the life-size Mickey balloon high fives…
…kisses and hugs, too!
I love the impact of a few birthday banners… and was really pleased with the Mickey-themed banner I purchased.
And I raided the girls’ toy baskets for instant decor with their Minnie plushies and extra large Mickey hands. I’m always a fan of using what you’ve got!
I added some Mickey & Minnie cut-outs to the wall behind our food table.
And I think my favorite decor item of all were the restroom doors signs that Pepper’s big sister Juniper created. Art for Kids Hub video tutorials for the win!
Number 3 Photo Prop
The only decor item I crafted myself was a large paper mache number 3 that I picked up at Hobby Lobby along with some wooden rounds, which I attached with hot glue, and then painted with acrylic paint in the style of Mickey Mouse. A pair of white buttons added the finishing touch!
I had a lot of fun working on this one! And it made for a fun photo prop. Thanks to Pretty my Party for the photo inspiration.
If you don’t want to DIY one yourself, you can purchase one from an Etsy artist. And I have one in stock {wink wink} that I’d be happy to sell for a comparable price! You can just drop a comment if you’re interested.
Party Games & Activities
Game 1: Pin the Nose & Mouth on Mickey
I delight in the challenge of coming up with party activities that are fun for all ages: from a just-turned-three-year-old to her oldest cousin Cora at 14.
First up a classic party game with a Disney spin: Pin the Nose & Mouth on Mickey! And the kit I ordered on Amazon came with everything we needed for this one.
Pro tips:
- Hang the sign so the littlest one can easily reach the nose / eyes area.
- Have the participants hold both stickers, one in each hand.
- Use BOTH blindfolds that come in the kit to keep the cheating to a minimum.
- Spin the older kids before sending them in the direction of the poster.
- Only allow one touch of the poster before the posting of their stickers.
- Have a fun prize like a badminton set or scoop & toss set for the winner!
Congrats to my niece, Clara, on her victory! She used a stellar strategy of sticker placement based on her belly button height.
The nice thing about this particular kit is that it came with plenty of stickers for game play… and you can easily peel them off the poster to play multiple rounds if you wanted.
Game 2: Ball Toss
I got inspired to do a simple ball toss game after gleaning inspiration from Noah’s Boytique. This activity is one that would work with any party theme and was a favorite of the older cousins!
I picked up some buckets from Dollar Tree, embellishing them with sticker numbers & Mickey Mouse & Friends stickers from Hobby Lobby. I also bought some lightweight water bomb splash balls balls from Target, keeping them totally dry for this game.
We drew a starting line for the two little gals in chalk. And a second line further back for the older kids.
Bucket 1 was worth 1 point, bucket 2 was worth 2 points, and I bet you can guess how much bucket 3 was worth. {Wink.}
I allowed one practice toss for each participant, and then, the games began.
This game was another hit. And we gave out another prize to the winner…my nephew, Micah!
Game 3: “Dig for Pluto’s Bones” Sensory Bin
Now, this last activity was one just for the birthday girl. So while the rest of the kids jumped into the pool to cool off, Pepper happily played her “Dig for Pluto’s Bones” activity.
Her task was to use her hands or shovel to dig into the kinetic sand and find all of the tiny wooden bones to feed to sweet Pluto.
And oh my, Pepper took this mission to heart–even gesturing feeding each one to the Pluto on the little sign as she dug them up for him.
She played and re-played this activity over and over again–re-burying the bones and digging them up again. Pluto was one well-fed pup!
Shout-out to So Easy Being Green for inspiring this one! This sensory bin experience is perfect for preschool-age kiddos, and I can see us revisiting it throughout the summer.
Food & Drink On Theme
In addition to serving pizza for lunch, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to incorporate a few snacks and side dishes that would be on theme, as well.
First up, we had “Pluto Punch” as our beverage: half lemonade, half pineapple juice. Delish!
Don’t forget to grab your Mickey & Minnie paper goods as well as your “Mouse-ka-tools.” Shout-out to Pretty My Party for that idea…and the next one!
I displayed the chips in a big red bowl I found at the Dollar Tree and added a couple of Mickey buttons using white sticker paper.
Then, we had a variety of themed snacks with M & M Trail Mix, Mickey Mouse goldfish, “Minnie” Carrots, and Donald Dip for Veggies.
My personal favorite, however, was the platter of fruit in the shape of Mickey’s lower-half using strawberries cut in half, blueberries, and pineapple. Another holler to Noah’s Boytique for that one!
I also made some yummy Daisy fruit dip using a recipe from My Baking Addiction. It’s a winner, folks! I’ll be making it again for Juniper’s birthday party next weekend.
And I whipped up my food signs in PicMonkey using ClipArt. Quick n’ easy!
Pool Time
Between lunch and dessert, there was lots of splish-splashing in the pool. You know it was a scorcher of a day because even the adults got in!
Mouse-Ear Cupcakes
Pepper’s birthday treat of choice was…cupcakes! And so I ordered a few dozen cupcakes with white, red, and yellow icing from our local Publix grocery store. Then, I topped them off with two mini-Oreos a la mouse ears.
I mean come, on. How cute are they?! Thanks to Two Sisters for this adorable idea.
And I’m still singing the praises of this 3-tiered cupcake stand from Target, which I purchase for only–wait for it–$5.00. It’s made of cardboard, but looks fancy schmancy, and breaks down flat for easy storage. Love!
And just like that, our little Pep-squeak turned three! She did a happy dance as we all sang “Happy Birthday” to her, quickly making her birthday wishes, blowing out her candle, and reaching for her sweet treat.
Pepper’s Fan Club
I clearly need to brush up on my timed photo skills because I cut myself off of the first photo I snapped and barely made it into the second, but I’m so grateful for the faces I did manage to include in this pic. And also the family that was with us in Disney spirit that day.
Our Pepper-girl is blessed beyond measure to be encircled by so many friends and family who love her! And that includes so many of you from The Thinking Closet community who have been celebrating her as she has grown up.
These 3 years and 9 months have gone by faaaaaast. Click HERE or the image below to watch a short video I made for Instagram with all of her monthly milestone pics. Get ready to watch her grow up in the blink of an eye!
To Close
This was the first year where I could tell Pepper really anticipated her birthday party and was bursting with excitement once the big day final arrived. Seeing her soak up every special moment and all the party details made my mama-heart soar.
Also, I wish I could share a sound-bite of the “awwww” she would make every time she opened a card or a present. I have no idea where she gets that from. {Wink wink.}
Happy birthday, sweet Pep! I look forward to celebrating you for “ears and ears” to come!
Well, dear reader, I hope your visit to The Thinking Closet today brought plenty of “mouse-spiration” your way!
If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m all “ears.” {Wink wink.}
