Blogging Dreams & Goals for 2012 by The Thinking Closet

We’ll make new traditions in place of the old ‘Cause life without revision will silence our souls. -”Snow” by Sleeping at Last Tomorrow marks the start of a new year.  A fresh start.  An uncharted path in the woods.  My lantern is at the ready. After reflecting on my blogging highlights from these first four months, it’s time to look forward.  I have so many dreams and goals for The Thinking Closet – – in {read more…}

I’m a Blog Angel: The Big Reveal

I'm A Blog Angel - The Big Reveal by The Thinking Closet

My career as an angel began long, long ago.  Back in 1987 to be exact.  In truth, most little girls between the ages of 3 and 6 are type-cast as angels for their church Christmas pageant, and I was no exception.  Here are a few snapshots I found of my first angel gig when looking through old albums during our time in New York this Christmas: Now, check out my 7th grade Halloween costume: Now, {read more…}

Blogging Highlights of Year 2012

Blogging Highlights of Year 2012 by The Thinking Closet

As we near the “gate of the year,” I’ve been reflecting on all that happened in my first four months of blogging – – and it has been WAY more than I ever dreamed or imagined. Here are some of my blogging highlights from The Thinking Closet’s inception in September 2012 through now: I have followers! This still boggles my mind, but there are people, all over the world, over 500 of them in fact, {read more…}

A Special Baby

This is Lauren, signing off.

Merry Christmas Eve, friends! Just had to share this beautiful video in which the children of St. Paul’s Church in New Zealand tell and act out the Christmas story.  There are so many magical moments in it – – I watched it three times in a row.  I just couldn’t get enough of those precious accents.  Look out for my favorite character: the third wise man.  Thanks to my M.I.L. Rachael for sharing this with {read more…}

Pallet Christmas Photo Display

Pallet Christmas Card Display by The Thinking Closet

I know, I know…it’s Christmas Eve Eve, and I’m still making things.  I promise, this is the last project!  After this, it’s church, then time to pack for our trip to New York (icanhardlycontainmyexcitement!). Remember all of those pallets we piled on top of our car?  Well, we’ve had great fun using the wood for various projects here and there.  I had this idea for a Christmas card & photo display that Mark helped me {read more…}

An Indie Christmas: Free Mix & Printable

An Indie Christmas Mix by The Thinking Closet

Needing a new Christmas mix to get you through these last few days until Christmas?  How about some last-minute Christmas gifts?  I’ve got you covered.  Just check out this post that I shared yesterday on my sister’s blog. I sort of take pride in my mix-making abilities.  As a wee lass, I used to craft mix tapes from songs on the radio, and later, when things got high-tech, I even burned mixes on CDs.  I {read more…}

D.I.Y. Twine Ball Tree Topper

D.I.Y. Twine Ball Tree Topper by The Thinking Closet

In the words of my husband, “Welp, better late than never.” Even though there are only four days until Christmas, I decided to make my own tree topper.  We keep our tree up through January anyway, so it’ll have some quality time on this year’s tree as well as on the trees in years to come.  I found my inspiration atop the trees in our church’s lobby.  Here are a few pics I snapped on {read more…}

Room Tour from the Sister of The Thinking Closet

My sister Lisbeth’s blog was a part of the inspiration for me in starting The Thinking Closet.  So, you can imagine how overjoyed I am that she is guest posting here today!  We’re doing guest post swaps, so I’m over at her blog, squeeze it into little inkdrops, sharing my Indie Christmas mix.  Feel free to stop by.  And now, let the magic begin:  Hello everyone at The Thinking Closet! Expected and Unexpected Guests

Christmas Photo Collage by The Thinking Closet

What a whirlwind week it has been! We’ve been busy hosting company…and not just the human kind.  A group of possums have taken up residency in the crawl space above our bedroom.  That’s right: possums.  (We have visual confirmation thanks to Mark’s headlamp.)  Their partying gets extra rowdy from 2 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., and between the air vent and thin walls, it almost sounds like they’re in the room with us.  Suffice it to {read more…}

I’m a Blog Angel! {Shhh…don’t tell.}

This fall, I kept hearing a buzz about this “blog angel” project by Rosie from Craftbotic.  I read posts about bloggers helping other bloggers – – in secret – – for an entire month whether it be through commenting on their posts, amping up their traffic through social media, swapping sponsor buttons…you get the picture. In past blog angel editions, each blog angel has also had a secret blog angel assigned to them…however, in keeping {read more…}

DIY Wrapping Paper Tutorial

DIY Wrapping Paper Tutorial via The Thinking Closet

Here’s my tutorial that was part of Sugar Bee Craft’s guest posting extravaganza last week.  Enjoy! I don’t know about you, but it seems like I never have the right wrapping paper on hand – – don’t get me wrong, I have plenty, but it’s either too feminine or too childlike, not the right holiday or not the right size.  So, I’ve been experimenting lately with alternatives to store-bought wrapping paper, and I’ve come across {read more…}

Christmas Cookie Baking Party

Christmas Cookie Baking Party - The Thinking Closet

Did I ever tell you that I have a sweet tooth?  (More like sweet teeth, plural.)  So, naturally, baking is one of my favorite things.  Right up there with eating baked goods.  Tee hee. When it comes to baking, I love it all – – from carefully following a recipe to licking the bowl clean.  Go one step further and make it a social event, and I’m in heaven. And that’s exactly what I got {read more…}

Punched Tin Ornament Tutorial

Punched Tin Ornament Tutorial by The Thinking Closet

In case you missed my guest post on Lines Across last Wednesday, here it is, friends. Happy ornamenting! I’m eager to share with you my new favorite d.i.y. project: a punched tin ornament.  What I love most about this ornament is that it can be made using items from your recycling bin and toolbox!  How sweet is that? “Where did the inspiration for this ‘lil guy come from?” I’m so glad you asked!  Well, it {read more…}

Spend Less to Give More: Food for Thought

Spend Less to Give More...Food for Thought this Christmas via thinkingcloset.com

Do you ever see a film or a commercial that just strikes you somewhere deep, and you never forget it? That’s what happened to me when I first saw “The Christmas Conspiracy” video a few years back when our friend Denice P. posted it on her Facebook wall. If you have two-and-a-half minutes to spare, here it is: It’s a simple concept, but one that I think we all need to be reminded of.  I {read more…}

D.I.Y. Wrapping Paper Tutorial – Guest Posting at Sugar Bee Crafts

DIY Wrapping Paper Tutorial via The Thinking Closet

Today, I am taking part in the guest posting extravaganza over at Sugar Bee Crafts, sharing my D.I.Y. Wrapping Paper Tutorial. (I know it may seem like I’m going guest-post-crazy, but for those who don’t know, sometimes you write guest posts several weeks before they “go live,” so let me clarify that I am not superwoman doing all of these projects in just a few days.  Such feats of crafty strength would be pretty incredible, though.) {read more…}

D.I.Y. No-Sew Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt

D.I.Y. No-Sew Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt by The Thinking Closet

I like ruffles…A LOT.  And my new obsession is burlap. So, when I saw Ashley Johnston’s tutorial for a ruffle Christmas tree skirt, I knew it was my next d.i.y. project.  Here’s my completed skirt: I’m in love with how it turned out, however, let me shoot straight: this project is not for the faint of heart. It’s time-consuming.  Although a few bloggers mentioned this only taking two hours, it took me closer to eight!  {read more…}
