2019 In Review: The Unaccomplished

I wouldn’t be true to myself it wasn’t un-fashionably late in posting my 2019 reflections! {Snicker.}

Each January, as excited as I am to springboard ahead into the new year with fresh goals and new practices, I pump the breaks a bit. And do an about-face, dedicating some intentional reflection time on what in the world happened last year.

It’s so easy to forget, isn’t it? A year can feel like a blink, but it’s quite long if you break it down into 4 seasons, 365 days, and 8760 hours (thank you, Google).

It feels important to honor 2019 for what it brought me and taught me before I officially close that chapter to start a new one. How else else will I know the direction in which I’m headed if I don’t take stock of how I got here? And then discover patterns and themes that are only visible when I step back and see my year across the spread of two pages.

Two Pages….

In 2017 when I was deep in my bullet journaling phase, I created a two page spread for my 2017 year in review.

Voila:

One important thing before we take on a new year. | Here's how to conduct a "year in review" in your bullet journal or favorite notebook to practice gratitude for ALL that last year brought and clarify your goals for the future!

And I liked it so much I did another for 2018!

2018 in Review: An Exercise in Gratitude | Before we set our goals for the new year, let's get our hearts in the right place by conducting a "year in a review" spread in our planner or bullet journal–so we can foster a heart of gratitude for the gifts last year brought our way...even in its hardships, unmet goals, and squandered time. Here's the how-to and the big WHY....

And here we are, making it a third annual tradition! My most colorful year yet.

My 2019 In Review

2019 in Review: The Unaccomplished | Before charging ahead into a new year full of new goals, let's pump the breaks a bit, and look back at what we accomplished, and what we didn't, and how we grew! We can do that through a "year in a review" spread in our planner or bullet journal. Join me for the run-down!

I didn’t feel like handwriting everything out in pencil first before going over it in pen like I did in previous years, so I just typed it up in Google Docs, adjusted my margins so it would fit in my *Horacio Dream Planner, and hit PRINT on my printer. The colorful paper is from the hodge podge in my cabinet.

I made some adjustments to the headings this year, taking away “Biggest Accomplishment” & “Successes” and adding in “The Unaccomplished” & “Measured in Love” because well, one of my biggest lessons from 2019 was discovering how often I place my self-worth in my achievements and tasks crossed off my list.

So, though it feels counter-intuitive to mark the things I did NOT accomplish, I thought I’d call them out as a small step in a longer journey I’m on toward believing I am worthy of love no matter what I do or don’t do.

Whew! That just got deep, y’all. Actually, there’s a lot more I have to say on this subject, and it connects to my “One Word for 2020.” You can click HERE to go check that out!

In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you!
