10th Annual Family Punny Halloween Costumes: Christmas Song Puns
If you love punny humor, family Halloween costumes, and a dash of Christmas spirit, well, you’ve come to the right place! Join us for the grand reveal of the Lanker family’s 10th annual punny Halloween costumes: Christmas song edition!
Since it’s the most PUN-derful time of the year for us Lankers, we thought we’d BRANCH out and merge two of our favorite holidays into one, dressing up as Christmas puns for Halloween this year. Christmas SONG puns to be specific.
Because we thought things weren’t complicated enough by portraying puns as Halloween costumes–we had to go and add another holiday into the mix! {Yuk yuk.}
We have Christmas spirit from our heads down to our MISTLETOES!
Ready to get some Christmas songs stuck in your head? Let’s do this!
Pepper’s Punny Christmas Costume
I’m SO excited to reveal our first punny costume of the Halloween season starting with our youngest punster, Pepper…
Oh DEER, we mixed up our holidays this year, didn’t we? Can you guess what Christmas song Pepper is dressed up as this year?
Hint: “Looks like RAIN, DEER!”
Answer: She’s “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed RAIN-deer!” Red umbrella, galoshes, and all!
Pepper’s punny costume is so on the NOSE… especially since she sings “Rudolph” year-round.
Oh DEER, she stole our hearts the minute she put her costume on. I’m still FAWNING over it!
My little rebel without a Santa Claus!
“Pepper the red-nosed RAIN-deer, you’ll go down in punny costume history!”
I’ve included affiliate and Amazon affiliate links in this post for your convenience.
Costume details: Here’s a link to Pepper’s “Hooded Deer Cape.” Pepper fell in love with it when we were searching online…sealing her fate as Santa’s right-hand gal, come RAIN or sleet! I bought a second-hand red umbrella and purchased white leggings and red rain boots on Amazon. The little paper raincloud and raindrop were from a baby shower I hosted years ago. (Reason #294 why I never throw anything out, ha ha.) And we completed the look with some Rudolph makeup… a red nose and some reindeer spots. Why does she look so grown up in this picture?
Juniper’s Punny Christmas Costume
Can you guess big sister Juniper’s punny costume?
I think this one might be the trickiest of all 4 costumes this year…but also my favorite!
Hint 1: Remember that the theme this year is Christmas songs… and Juniper is portraying a lyric from a well-loved Christmas carol.
Hint 2: I spy with my little eye not one, not two, not three…but FOUR birds…
Hint 3: ….all on cell phones.
Anyone, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Answer: She’s “Four Calling Birds!” From the Christmas carol, “The 12 Days of Christmas.”
Did that one FLY right over your head? Or did you guess it!
Let me tell ya, 4 phone lines ain’t cheap! We had to cash in the 5 GOLDEN RINGS to pay the phone bill this month!
We had a HOOT giving Juniper’s Halloween costume the punny TWEET-ment this year. And we QUACK ourselves up with these imPECKable puns!
And Juniper is a pro at recognizing puns in the wild. She’s a CHIRP off the old block.
We just CAW-ed to say, Happy Halloween… and Merry Christmas while we’re at it!
Did we miss any bird puns? TOUCAN drop ’em in the comments! Or are you not EMU-sed?
Costume Details: The bird costume was a purchase from Sparkle in Pink. It came with the dress, cape, and headband. I was very impressed with the quality! I purchased the red bird clips on Amazon, and had so much PUN making the tiny cell phones for our fine-feathered friends. I just printed out images of iPhone home screens on cardstock that I backed with black vinyl, and then I hot glued them onto the birds. Juniper’s cell phone is a kids toy we’ve had for years! And she chose the ruby red slippers from her own collection of second-hand shoes.
I also did some bird-inspired eye makeup for Juniper that really made the whole look come to life in a magical way!
LAUREN’S PUNNY CHRISTMAS COSTUME
And now, it’s time to reveal my punny costume for this year! Can you guess what Christmas song I am?
Hint 1: I’m rocking a 1st place ribbon.
Hint 2: There’s a notable letter crossed out on my alphabet shirt.
Any classic Christmas hymns coming to mind?
Answer: “The 1st No L” as in “The First Noel!” Get it?
My friend Crissie pointed out the humor of me, Lauren Lanker, doing a “No L” costume. Bah ha ha: there’s no limit to the depth of humor with these puns. Peel em back like layers of an onion, I tell ya.
It would have been a catasTROPHY to miss this punny opportunity!
We KNOW WELL how bad these puns are. If we’ve ruined this song for you, we say OH WELL.
But either way, we hope we’ve made a FA-LA-LA-LA-LASTING impression.
Costume details: This costume was the easiest to pull together by far. I purchased my red alphabet shirt and 1st place ribbon on Amazon. And then used an x-acto knife to cut out my circle out of black vinyl. I borrowed a plastic trophy as an extra prop to add to the victorious look! And the red topknot headband is one of a whole collection I have had for years now and use ALL THE TIME.
MARK’S PUNNY CHRISTMAS COSTUME
And last, but not least, we have Mark. Can you guess the punny Christmas song?
Hint 1: “Shhhh! Be quiet!” whispers the knight.
Hint 2: “All is calm, all is bright.” (Kinda like Mark!)
Answer: Yep, he’s a “Silent Knight”…inspired by my FAVORITE Christmas song, “Silent Night!”
He’s lookin’ quite SHARP for a MIDDLE-AGED man, ha ha.
A fitting costume for someone who works the KNIGHT shift! {Ba-dum-ching!}
We also lovingly refer to him as Sir Dance-alot!
We realize there are still many more KNIGHTS before Christmas, but since it’s our favorite holiday, we hope you didn’t mind that we bumped up the celebrating this Halloween!
Costume details: The knight costumes were lookin’ a wee bit pricey to me on Amazon. So we borrowed this one from our church’s extensive costume collection. The different pieces included: gray sweatpants, a silver/gray long-sleeved waffle shirt, a green felt tunic (hot glued together at the top, a silver spray-painted belt, a sword, a knight helmet, boot covers, and toy stick hobby horse. And I updated a photo booth prop of a speech bubble with the words, “Shhh! Be quiet.” But I think that part can be acted out with the “shhh” gesture to free up hands for trick-or-treating!
MOre FAVORITES FROM OUR FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT
A glance behind-the-scenes:
This is one of my favorites…a photo within a photo!
Juniper really got into character as one of “Four Calling Birds.” Here she is nesting!
You can see Pepper eyeing his helmet… and yes, she did pull the front down and up, down and up! Pepper is our family comedian and is always finding ways to get a laugh!
Sweet sisters….
I spy a glimmer in Rudolph’s eye!
Daddy always brings out Juniper’s biggest smiles.
And of course, we needed our token ZANY family photo:
And yes, one of these will probably be our Christmas photo this year… because of course!
So very grateful for my Knight in Shining Armor who has been my partner in punny crime all 10 years of our punny family costumes. He is someone who much prefers to stay behind the scenes, but he knows how much PUN I have with these costumes each year, that he’s always ALL IN! Bless him.
Can you feel the chemis-TREE between us? “Silent Knight” & “The 1st No L” foreva.
Shout-out to my friend and soul-sister Shauna for snapping our family photos this year (and in years prior). It is no small feat to pull off a family photo shoot in costume during that hour at dusk when we’re ALL prone to meltdowns, but that’s where a magical human like Shauna is such a game-changer! We’re so grateful for you, Sha-Sha.
