Delivery Drivers Holiday Treats Station

Presenting…our 2020 Delivery Drivers Treats Station, our new favorite Christmas tradition:

We set up our first treats station last Christmas, and it was SUCH a hit with our mailman and delivery drivers, we decided to make it an annual Lanker family Christmas tradition.

We honestly get more excited to see a drink or snack taken away than a package left behind! (And that’s sayin’ something because I love me some packages.)

Hooray for random acts of kindness, and gifts to others that also give back to you with warm fuzzies.

Here’s a 30 second Reel showing how we set up our basket this year:

And for those who prefer a step-by-step photo tutorial, I got you, boo!

Step by Step Photo Tutorial

Step 1. Make your own sign or print one off & support an Etsy artist.

For your sign, there are lots of free printables out there or you can support an Etsy shop owner like WKWoodworksCo, which is where ours is from.

I printed mine off on white cardstock to give it heft and attached it to a second piece of cardstock with some double-sided tape, so it would have some height in our basket.

Optional Step 2. Laminate your sign to protect it from the elements.

We live in Florida where there’s lots of humidity (even in the winter), so I went ahead and laminated our sign using Avery Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets.

Step 3. Gather up snacks, drinks, & a basket.

Gather up some snacks and drinks to share. You can raid your cabinets for pre-packaged snacks and drinks you already have on hand or look out for BOGO deals on your next grocery run.

This year, our basket has waters, Starbucks frappuccino bottles, granola bars, bags of assorted nuts and dried fruit, and Skinny Pop popcorn.

4. Load up a basket or tray with your goodies!

We usually set out about 3-5 of each item per day and restock it each night when we bring it inside (a great job for the kids to help out with).

The frappuccino bottles are always quick to go!

Optional Step 5. Add some cheer with a festive bow.

A festive red bow really adds a pop of Christmas cheer, don’t you think? Use whatever you have on hand!

Pro tip: I used a few pins to keep the bow where I wanted it on my basket and to keep the ribbon taught in the back.

Step 6. Set your basket outside your front door each morning to encourage your hardworking delivery drivers this holiday season.

Prepare to bring the hugest smile to your delivery drivers…plus a much-needed energy boost with those snacks and drinks.

Let’s do our part to carry our essential workers through the busy holiday season!

Optional Step 7. Add a note to your mailbox.

If your mailbox is far from your front door, you can leave a note inside your mailbox for your postal workers to let them know you have treats just for them by your door.

I also add a note by our doorbell with a friendly reminder about not needing to ring for package deliveries. Never wake a sleeping baby, ha ha!

Final Reflections

There’s something so thrilling to me about this form of gift-giving. Perhaps because it’s unexpected. A way to serve those who are constantly serving. An opportunity to spread little bit of love and light during what can be a hard time of year for those who work extra long days…not to mention the fact that our delivery drivers have been working extra hard all year long because of the global pandemic.

I hope this is an inspiration to you. Trust me, once you set up your own basket and spread the happy to your own delivery workers, there’s no going back from that Christmas high! It’ll become an annual tradition for you, too.

And it’s never too late to set up a little station outside your front door! We didn’t get ours set up until the week before Christmas last year, and it was SO worth it.

Let me know if you decide to give it a go!

  1. I didn’t get a chance to do this in December but just put ours out today. It’s been on my to-do list since I saw it in your IG. Thanks!!

  2. We also have a little basket of goodies for our carriers this year, thanks to you. It is so exciting to check it when a package arrives and to see if they’ve taken anything! It is so exciting. And I just noticed that Junie’s tee-shirt is one of the handmade ones from your great Aunt Ruth that you wore back in the day! Made me smile! 🙂

  3. Great idea to bless the postal and package carriers! Unsung heroes! Junie does a great Vanna White impersonation! Thanks for the printable gift tags and reminder of the simmering satchels!
