The Friday Five: Pets in Costume

I dare you to attempt to put a Halloween costume on a cat.

In my experience, cats have an innate ability to anticipate such evil plots and flee the premises before you can even get a paw through an arm-hole.  Or…if you somehow manage to outsmart your cat’s natural instincts and maneuver a dress over its head or booties on its paws, the cat will fall limp like a rag-doll.  In protest.  In disdain.  As if giving up its will to live.  There’s nothing so miserable as a cat in a costume.

Still…it’s worth the struggle and misery for its sheer entertainment value and cuteness factor.  In fact, let’s “awwww” over some of these rare and precious occurrences right now:

The Friday Five

Last week it was Cute Kids in Costume…this week, as promised, it’s Pets in Costume!    So, for those of you with fur-babies at home, perhaps you’ll be inspired to come up with a cute Halloween costume for your favorite furry friend.  Or perhaps, contrarily, this will confirm that you will never-ever-ever put your pet through this torture.  Either way, enjoy these five links {with five word intros}.

The Friday Five with The Thinking Closet & The Learner Observer

Thalita is sharing her Friday Five today over at The Learner Observer: Random Bits.  After you soak up that goodness, you should also check out All You Need is Chili, written by Thalita’s husband, Alex, actually!  He took over her blog earlier in the week, and it about made my heart explode out of my chest, it was so sweet.

T.G.I.F. dear ones.  Be well!

  1. I remember it like it was yesterday when you first found that gif of the cat falling over and we laughed until our sides hurt. It STILL cracks me up! It’s the “paralyzed mode” that kills me! Shark Cat is also a winner. Though it’s not Halloween, it’s ALWAYS appropriate to look at pix of animals in costumes. Thanks for the cutesy compilation!

      1. Ha ha. Thanks for the clarification! And I can almost see your NEW profile picture now (with Tilly as a very realistic-looking dinosaur). I love it!

  2. OMG!! The cats are so funny! Especially when you have some of your own and know what their personalities are. I have 3 and Maaaybe 1 of them might stand still for two minutes for a picture. Where on earth do you find this stuff! I LOVE IT!

    1. Thank YOU Ms. Karen for inspiring this Friday Five in the first place! (I hope you caught the photo of the piratical pup you sent me many months ago.)

And I love that you’re a cat person, too! I can never get enough of cat photos and videos…especially cats in costume (because you know what a rare moment it is). Ha ha. I had fun digging these up in Google land for y’all! Glad you enjoyed them, Karen.

  3. These made me laugh so hard. Showed them to your grandmother and it made her laugh, too! Wish I had tried to put Vashti in a costume but I doubt she would have tolerated it long enough to get a photo!

    1. No, Vashti wouldn’t have stood for it…at least, not for very long! I used to try to wrap our kitties up in blankets and they always wriggled their way out of my arms faster than you could say, “Bob’s Your Uncle.” It’s almost like they were made to be able to escape constriction by costume or something!

Glad to know you and Mor Mor got a chuckle from these! Lisbeth and I were laughing to tears as I put this post together. 😉

    1. Yay! So glad you enjoyed this post, Nicole! I think more animal posts will have to be in my future – – it was just so much fun to compile. Animal cuteness never gets old!

  4. LOL! I never knew a critter that would leave a costume on for more than 30 secs! I do however have a small dog that LOVES to ride in my bike basket. I am thinking…..Dorothy and Toto!

    1. Oooo! I love the Dorothy and Toto idea! (Now, you have a few Halloween costumes to work with.) How sweet that your pup enjoys a ride in your bicycle basket. That is just too cute!

  5. Lol. This is so true. I have two cats and I’ve tired to put christmas costumes on them before and they some how know just when to run for it. They hate it and it’s so difficult to get the costume on them but they are just so cute once they are dressed up!

    1. They have a sixth sense, I tell you! Growing up, our cats were so in tune to going to the vet, that we couldn’t even move the cat carrier from its spot in the basement until seconds before we were leaving…otherwise they would KNOW what was up and hide! #smarterthanwegivethemcreditfor

    1. It’s the cost of being a furry friend, I suppose! Much though they hate it, those costumes just look so darned cute!

  6. You.are.hilarious! I don’t have a pet currently but in the past I never did dress up my pet, though it was too cruel. But I seriously derive much pleasure from watching others dress their pets up! haha LOVE this 😉

    1. Ha ha. I get a kick out of it, too, Jamie! And I TRIED to dress my cats up in doll clothes when I was younger, but they were too stealthy to ever allow such madness. I could barely get a bonnet over their head before they’d dart to a secret hiding spot. Sheesh! 😉

    1. Oh my gosh, I know! Christine, my sister and I watched that one over and over last night, and just could not get enough. The blank “I hate you” stare plus the bee costume plus the slapstick-tumble-to-the-ground…I can’t.

  7. ha!ha! I love all these costumes Lauren!
I haven’t thought about what will I make my 2 dogs wear yet but I will make them wear something for sure! 😉 I love Halloween ha!ha!
    wish you a beautiful weekend!

    1. Oooo, I can’t wait to see what you decide on for your pups. Will you take pics? I hope so! I never tire of seeing pets dressed up in costume. 😉 Happy weekend to you, friend!

  8. These are all so cute! Love the pirates!! ARRRRRrrrrr!
We decided to wait on dressing up Dewars this year. He is so wiggly and puppy right now that despite being cute he would never last. So we are waiting until next year when he will be either an Ewok or a Wookie! 🙂
    Kenley

    1. That’s right! You share an affinity for pirates, as well, I now recall. And oh my, the thought of your puppy dressed up as an Ewok or Wookie just makes my heart swell. You must must must do that next year, and you must must must take pics! 😉

  9. Haha! I love this post! I have two wonderful furry little dogs and I love dressing them up! They sometimes have Halloween costumes and always wear their Santa suits at Christmas! One year for Halloween I was Dorothy and my chihuahua was Toto! I made him a black furry jacket and put him in my basket! 🙂

    1. Oh my goodness – – I love that your dogs are so accustomed to wearing costumes! Guess you’ve trained them well! The Dorothy and Toto one sounds absolutely darling…and I’m dying inside to imagine them in teeny weeny Santa suits. Ha ha! Thanks for the chuckle.
