Cord on Strike…So Let’s Watch a Video!

What it looks like when my camera cord goes on strike and decides to thwart all plans of posting fun photo tutorials.

True story.  The cord that connects our camera to the computer has decided to go on strike and stop working.  This indeed thwarts all plans of posting my awesome furniture makeover or any future posts involving photos for that matter.  Sigh.  That is until UPS delivers a new cord in the next 1-3 days or I break down and use my cell phone camera.

Do you have any objects in your household that have decided to go on strike?  Do they also bear a striking resemblance to an angry Tom Sellek?

In the meantime, and since it’s Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d share a lil sweet video called Paperman.  If you have a heart for love stories, silent films, paper airplanes, the 2D animation of the good ole days, or all of the above, you’re in for a treat.  Thanks to my S.I.L. Ashlee for sharing this video with me in the first place!  May it warm your heart and remind us all that love will find a way.

Update: the original video I posted is no longer available.  If you can operate the zoom function on your screen to focus on one image, this one should suffice.  Trust me, it’s worth the watch!

Happy Saint Valentine’s Day, dear readers.

This is Lauren, signing off.

  1. Oh no! This video has gone on strike! Or is it just me? When I clicked on it, it said “this video is private.” Let me know if it’s just my computer going wonky or if it’s the link. Hoping I can see it soon! xo

  2. Our Modem passed away. Fair Dinkum! With time and therapy, we will recover. Meanwhile we have purchased another with a lifetime guarantee! Wow! pretty unusual these days. It is a Belkin.

    1. Yeah, you don’t hear of modems much anymore…but whatever works! I used cassette tapes long after CDs had come out just because I preferred them, and it was what I was used to. Right now, our wireless isn’t working (commenting from my phone) so two are down for the count. Just trying to roll with it and enjoy the day without needing to hop on the computer every few minutes…. 🙂

  3. Thanks so much for sharing this short!! And hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!!

P.S. — We ALWAYS seem to have household items that decide to go on strike at the most awful times! I totally feel your pain! 🙂

  4. The video is lovely! Did anyone noticed that SHE understands what one only sheet is trying to tell her when HE has to be transported by one hundred pieces of paper?

For your photos: can you put your micro SD in the phone and transfere pics to MAC with cell cord or, if you have an Android cell, try using Airdroid APP: you need no more cord!!!
I hope this can help 🙂

    1. Ha! That’s a really astute observation! Wonder if they intended to make a commentary on gender norms….

And the card is too big for our phones…but it’s a good idea to find a way to go cordless. Wireless printing has been SUCH a welcomed development in our household. Thanks for the tip!

      1. You’re welcome! I’m glad if I can share something with you, the one who make me decide to start my blog 😉

Here we have SD adaptor cards containing micro SD cards that can be divided… so you can use them both in phones, cameras and pc.. but airdroid ROCKS 🙂

        1. I helped inspire you to start your blog? Awesome-sauce! That makes me so happy to know.

And it’s neat to learn about new forms of technology out there…SD cards that can be divided? What’ll they think of next?!

          1. Yes You did, indeed 🙂

Really you’ve never heard about SD and Micro SD? You can find them also on ebay, writing “SD adapter” 😉

  5. Happy Valentines! Love the video!!! Very cute! We (my fiance and I) were both captivated by it. Sorry to hear about your cord. Our desktop computer’s sound card goes on strike every now and then. It is very disconcerting, since we watch a ton of movies on it. Usually rebooting fixes it, but the other day it took a couple reboots. No bueno!

    1. Yeah, we thought it might be an issue on the computer end, but both my laptop and Mark’s didn’t recognize the USB connection…hence our conclusion that the cord is the guilty party. :-/ Glad you and your fiancé enjoyed the vid. Mark really liked it, too!

  6. Happy Valentine’s day to you too Lauren! Sorry to hear about your cord! It’s so upsetting, just this afternoon after reading many posts my Apple Mac stopped working and when I turned it back on a grey screen appeared asking me to shut down! Again! What? Ah! I did, it’s working but now I’m scared, can’t afford a new one! Ah! Hope you are having a great day with your hubby 🙂 you got me curious about your new projects can’t wait to see them! 🙂

    1. Oooo…those grey screens are scary! I’ve had that happen to me, too…and you just pray that you didn’t just lose everything you worked on. When we got our new macbook, we got a new external hardrive, so I try to back things up more frequently than I used to…just in case the worst happens!

And I’m looking forward to posting new projects hopefully early next week. Have a great weekend, Ingrid!

  7. Such a sweet video! I was picturing it being in Chicago!

Sorry about your cord, but agree that the time off can be a good thing.

While teaching nursing students today, I wanted to show a clip of OCD symptoms using the film As Good as it Gets…but a message on the computer at the school popped up saying I needed a new flash player or something…so I had to tell the students to watch it at home. Not a cord, but a techno problem!! Happy V Day and anniversary of your engagement!
Love you and your handy, DIY husband!

    1. That’s a bummer that the technology didn’t cooperate, Mom. That is one of my biggest teaching frustrations (imagine a classroom of 30 freshmen with laptops and none of them connect to the internet…and you have them for not 45 minutes, but 90 minutes. Ahhhhh!)

Anyway, hope you and Dad had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Ours was low-key and lovely.

  8. Noooo, don’t cave into the cell phone camera! Don’t let it taunt you with it’s ways. I hear those things are tricksters but since I don’t own a cell phone I guess I don’t really know. 😉

I look forward to see your furniture flip. I love flipping furniture!

    1. I’ll try not to be tempted (though I did use it to take a photo of my angry cord for the post – – then did some MAJOR photo editing to deal with the poor lighting situation). You’re the queen of flipping furniture! Our makeover isn’t quite as dramatic as some of yours, but I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Can’t wait to share it with you.

      1. It’s funny you say that because I HATE my old flips (well except my tiled table). I’m even selling my green table and owl chairs (too bright). I love color but it’s too much at once, painful to the eyes. 😉 My tastes have changed quite a lot since then.

  9. I’ll take your cord for my WASHING MACHINE. Omg. Last night before the freezing cold water rinse cycle, it died. Wet clothes. Frozen hands. Manually draining it. Did I mention the cost of a new one? They make them without agitators now. I feel old for not knowing that.

    1. Oh no. I’m so sorry, Alex! My hands are getting chilled just thinking about that. I have an idea on how much a new one might cost as we needed to buy a set when we moved to Florida. It was a hefty investment, but we’re hoping these puppies outlive us. We went with Samsung front-loaders and are lovin’ ’em. (Got the floor models, so that helped with price…as did a coupon, but STILL.) Best of luck, Alex!

  10. I’m with the comment above and use the card reader on my computer. I have NO CLUE where my cord is, and will probably go into a panic if/when my computer crashes one day and my new computer does not include one. Bummer about your cord and not being able to post your latest projects. In the meantime, enjoy the next couple of days “off” and Happy Valentines Day!

    1. Thanks for identifying with my woe, Christina! Sadly, our macbooks don’t have card-readers that fit the size of the camera card. That would be awesome, though! And I’m definitely going to take your advice and enjoy the next few days off. We have a friend coming into town, and I’m performing on stage in our church’s theatre production this weekend as a very hip Ruth, so fun times ahead! Hope you have a great weekend, as well!

        1. Ha ha…we shall see. My entrance is to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” if that gives you any idea. Maybe I can get Mark to capture it on his phone…though the evidence could be incriminating! 🙂

    1. Glad you enjoyed the video, Midsommarflicka. (Love that name.) And I wish we had a card reader…that’d be uber convenient right about now. And we might end up needing to buy one if the cord ends up not being the problem but rather the socket in which the cord plugs into the camera. We shall keep our hopes alive, though! 😉

      1. Have you read about the meaning of my name or do you just love the funny sound it has in english? 😉

Oh well, if you don’t have a card reader my suggestion is useless… Luckily my computer has a slot for SD-Cards and my laptop even for some more cards!

        1. I mostly meant that I liked the sound of your blog name and middle name, but I went back to your blog and re-read that it means “midsummer girl” in Swedish. How cool! I am 25% Swedish; my sister’s name is Lisbeth, the Swedish spelling of Elizabeth. Love it!

  11. Would a card reader work? I never use the cord that came with my camera (would probably really have to search the house for it if I needed it!!!).

      1. Yeah, our macbooks don’t have such a slot…we checked. There and the printer. And we raided our box of cords to see if we had anything that would fit. Of course, out of the 100 cords, all are unique and none of them fit. Ha ha. I was pretty disappointed yesterday because I was really excited about some photos I had taken (you’ll see why), but we’re rolling with it now. 😉

    1. I didn’t realize how very much in the dark ages we were with the cord method…it seems that most of the world uses a card reader. 🙂 Maybe we need to invest in one! That’d solve the problem quite nicely.

  12. Awe!! That was so fun! I love a good chick flick. My husband says that any movie with a kiss is a chick flick… therefore batman, spiderman… I beg to differ, but with that logic this one just referred to a kiss, so technically it was not. 🙂 he might even watch it.

    Thanks for making me smile.

    1. Ha ha! That’s too funny. Yes, see if you can slide this one in under the radar. Though it is oozing with romance, a blatant kiss it does not show! 😉 Glad to give you a smile, Diane.

  13. Awww . . . how sweet is that!!! Thank you for sharing it, Lauren! And good luck with your new cord! My laptop cord started throwing out sparks a couple of weeks ago but I got a new one delivered in about three days, so I hope you have good luck, too! (And come to think of it, it DID kind of look like angry Tom Sellek!!!) 🙂

  14. I hope UPS swiftly delivers the new cord! I noticed that the earphones to my iPhone weren’t working correctly…but it was no random act of disobedience, a certain 5 year old in the house got a hold of them.lol

    Cute video.:) Happy Valentine’s Day!

    Cindy

    1. Ha ha, I guess not all objects are responsible for their own demise then! 😉 Glad you enjoyed the video. It’s something special isn’t it? Happy Valentine’s Day to you, too, Cindy!

  15. How sweet! Thanks for sharing a cute little pick me up for Valentines. May each of us be pursued so relentlessly by someone who loves us today!

I hope your angry Tom Sellek cord is quickly replaced by one with a less volatile personality! Just consider it a break from the bond of technology for a few days!

    1. Yes, I do hope his replacement is a bit less disgruntled. Ha ha. And you’re right – – it’s probably a blessing in disguise to be forced to spend less time on the computer and more time with my loved ones these next few days. Thanks for pointing my eyes to see that the glass is more than half full. Happy V Day, dear friend.
