Sewing 101: Darts & Marking

I’m back to Raechel Myers’s Sewing 101 course online.  This time, we’re practicing darts & marking.  And apparently, darts aren’t just things you throw at a target.  And marking…well, let’s have a quick heart to heart about marking.

So, I sort of lol’d at myself because when Raechel said we needed tracing paper for this project, I went out and bought what I thought was tracing paper – – the clearish thin paper of my childhood used to trace Disney characters in coloring books.  However, within a few moments of her video, I realized my understanding of the term “tracing paper” was very very off.  It sort of felt like that moment from The Office Season 6, Episode 3, when Michael and his date Carol show up to the Diwali party in costume – – Halloween-esque costumes – – and everyone else is in ethnic Indian garb.  Yeah, that was me and my clear tracing paper.

But no worries!  Printing out a coupon and stopping by Hobby Lobby or Jo-Ann’s is becoming a daily event.  So, here’s tracing paper ROUND TWO:

Now that’s more like it.

So, once we got that little snafu taken care of, I really enjoyed the darts & marking practice.  Here are the fruits of my labor:

And now, just because I’m geeking over my new sewing box that arrived yesterday, I thought I’d share a picture of it in all its cantilever splendor:

I did a lot of shopping around before settling on this one that I found on Amazon (affiliate link).  The double cantilever sold me, and everything seems to fitting perfectly with room to spare.  Yay!

Happy Saturday, everyone.

  1. A couple thoughts: 1. I love that Office episode. Classic Michael Scott confusion. 2. Where are all these Hobby Lobby coupons coming from, and do I have a Hobby Lobby near me? (that second question was really more directed at myself) 3. I’ve never heard the word cantilever before, but if that’s what your sewing box is, I love cantilevers!

    1. Oh yes, you can get Hobby Lobby coupons online. They post one weekly for 40% off any item (click here). I never go to the store without one. And I only know the term cantilever from Mark; otherwise, I’d use the term “those unfolding trays.” 😉

  2. Love seeing all your accomplishments and the sewing box is amazing!! Look forward to our sewing day Wednesday & a chance to break in all of those gadgets haha

      1. Can you share what the project is or at least tell us after you are done? Have fun! Wish I could join you!! Love your darts and markings and especially your hand-written notes!!

Your comments make my day!
