“Anne of Green Gables” Themed Bullet Journal: “Plan With Me” VIDEO

"Anne of Green Gables" Themed Bullet Journal & "Plan With Me" VIDEO | Join me for another "plan with me" video where I set up my bullet journal for a new month using an "Anne of Green Gables" or "Anne with an E" theme for book lovers, Megan Follows film fanatics, and Netflix series fans alike! I'll create a new title page, monthly log, monthly task list, habit tracker, mood tracker, prayer log, weekly logs, and dailies! So much Anne-spiration awaits!

Greetings, friends! I am back with a new “plan with me” video for a new month in my bullet journal.

Now, I’ve been all about the monthly themes lately. I love how they spark creativity in my layouts, so I never get bored creating the same ‘ole, same ‘ole.

Last month, my spreads were inspired by a camper adventure theme, and I have an entire “plan with me” video dedicated to that one if you want to check it out.

And this month, I am excited to share that this month’s theme is…”Anne of Green Gables!” That’s right: Anne-with-an-E–everyone’s favorite imaginative, talkative, red-haired dreamer. So, whether you love the L.M. Montgomery books, Megan Follows films of the 80s, or the new “Anne with an E” Netflix series, I hope you’ll be tickled pink red by the Anne-spiration in my spreads for this new month.

This post is essentially a transcript of the video, so feel free to reference it for resources and supplies I mention.

Supplies

I’m a big believer in using what you have. Don’t think you need to go out and buy a whole bunch of new fancy supplies in order to get started. All you really need is a writing notebook and a pen.

Here’s a list of the supplies I am using to set up this month’s spread:

  • *Softcover Writing Notebook by Doubled Edged Notes: I found this guy on Amazon, and I’ve gotta say, I’m pleased with the paper quality, lay-flat binding, and page numbers; however, I find myself longing for dot grid pages rather than lined sometimes.
  • Micron Pens – 16 Color Set: these write so smoothly and have minimal ghosting on the pages of my bullet journal. The color palette is lovely.
  • Crayola Twistables: my favorite colored pencils because they go onto the page so smoothly, and the tips never break or need sharpening. Just twist ’em!
  • Derwent Eraser Pen: yep, this is an eraser you hold like a pen. And since I pre-draw out all my layouts in pencil first, this makes erasing so much easier. This is probably my favorite utensil because of how practical it is.
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • Persian limes: for beauty and aroma

First Things First

Now, before I sketched out my October spreads, I took some time to review September: what worked in my bujo, what didn’t, changes to make, and collections to add. And I have to say, I found that reflection process extremely helpful. And you’ll see in my “plan-with-me” video the changes I made to improve my productivity and organization going forward.

This is what I love so much about bullet journaling: the fact that my layouts are ever-evolving based on what’s working for me and what’s not. After all, we as people are ever-evolving. Why shouldn’t our planners grow and change with us? Tell me that!

September Reflections: Looking back on the last month in my bullet journal and what worked, what didn't, what changes to make, and collections to add. The review process proved to be extremely helpful in setting up my next month's spreads!

Big shout-out to Nicole from @bujo_blossoms on Instagram for inspiring my box designs in this spread and so many others this month.

Title Page

Living in Florida, I really miss the changing autumn leaves of my childhood in New York. So, I thought a wreath of fall leaves and berried branches would help me live vicariously through my bullet journal. I decided to use my Micron Pens for this spread since the palette seemed suited to the season. I ended up using five colors–orange, dark brown, medium brown, red, and olive green–as my primary color palette for this month’s layouts.

As for the quote, this was the line from Anne of Green Gables that inspired my entire theme in the first place:

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

I am, too, Anne. I am, too. And I thought this beautiful sentiment deserved a page of its own to kick off the spreads for this brand new month.

Monthly Log

Last month, I found I wasn’t referring back to my monthly log too much. And I think it’s because the calendar was essentially a duplication of our family’s shared calendar on the Cozi app. So, I put a new spin on my monthly log this time around, color-coding my days based on repeating events.

  • red: Lauren’s work days
  • blue: Mark’s work days
  • purple: BCL
  • orange: connect group
  • green: date night
  • olive: Sabbath (our family’s shared day of rest since we both work Sundays sometimes)

This is something Cozi cannot do.

I highlighted birthdays, appointments, and special events of the month beneath the calendar, and added stars to the corresponding days above.

And with four blank days in the last week of my October calendar, I seized the opportunity to add the four different flora from my title page. Voila!

Monthly Task List

My two-page monthly task list is baaaaack. And it’s because it has been serving me well. It’s a net for catching the “to dos” that pop up in my head throughout the month. And writing them down in a safe, organized place frees me up from worrying about them. I refer back to this list at the start of each week to make sure I’m incorporating these monthly tasks into my week.

My eight categories are the same as last month.

  • goals
  • important
  • to buy
  • others
  • BCL (my theatre directing job)
  • personal
  • biz (The Thinking Closet)
  • next month

“Anne” fans, you know exactly what that bottle and glass doodle are filled with…. That’s right! Raspberry cordial…or so Anne and Diana thought! Their mix-up between currant wine and raspberry cordial made for one of the most epic tea party fails in literary history. I needed to pay homage to it somehow!

And I thought this Anne quote from the raspberry cordial scene was most fitting atop a monthly task list:

“There are so many responsibilities on a person’s mind when they’re keeping house, isn’t there?”

I think Anne needed a bullet journal. Don’t you? And Marilla Cuthbert needed some bottle labels. {Tee hee.}

Habit Tracker

Last month was my first time using habit and mood trackers, and they really helped raise my awareness about how my wellness habits are so closely linked to my mood. So, it was a no-brainer to include these trackers again.

The big change I decided to make this month was in my habit tracker. Rather than track nine different habits and do a decent job with all of them, I decided to hone in on the three most important to me:

  1. quiet time (Bible reading and prayer)
  2. exercise (30 minutes a day)
  3. sugar free (no sweets or bread)

These three habits were the three I actually struggled with the most last month, and I have a hunch that zeroing in on them in this way will help improve my consistency.

In the event that I miss a day here or there, I shan’t despair! I have Anne Shirley’s word of encouragement for me:

“…tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it yet.”

I decided to write this quote on a schoolroom slate. I like to think that Anne wrote this before she cracked it down on Gilbert’s head. {Wink.}

Mood Tracker

Okay, so, my October mood tracker ended up being my favorite spread of the month for sure. In my internet searching for “Anne” themed visuals, I came across a beautiful graphic of Anne’s iconic braids designed by B.Y.U. arts. Shout-out to them!

And so, I recreated it, diving up the braids of Anne’s tragically red hair–her “life long sorrow” as she would put it–into 31 sections, one for each day of the month.

Then, I had heaps of fun pulling together Anne quotes for four different moods represented by four different colors of my Crayola Twistables:

  • yellow: “…as near to perfection as anything can come in the world.”
  • orange: “…the nicest and sweetest days are…those that bring simple, little pleasures.”
  • brown: “I’m just tired of everything…even of the echoes.”
  • magenta: “My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes.”

I feel like that last quote will bring a much-needed dose of Anne’s romanticism to those tough days we inevitably face.

Prayer Log

I thought I’d put a new twist on my monthly gratitude log by creating a prayer log instead. Prayer is an aspect of my spiritual life in which I want to grow, and I think having a bit of structure for my prayer time will help nurture this practice.

Each day, I will choose someone to lift up in prayer from one of five categories:

  • family
  • friends near
  • friends afar
  • neighbors
  • teachers & leaders

There are 31 blank lines total in these five boxes, and I left out the dates, so I have the freedom to jump around the different categories as the Spirit leads.

I had some blank space at the bottom of my second page, which seemed like the perfect opportunity to include Anne’s perspective on prayer:

“Why must people kneel down to pray? If I really wanted to pray, I will tell you what I would do. I would go out into a great big field all alone or in the deep, deep woods and I would look up into the sky. Up. Up. Up. Up into that lovely blue sky that looks as if there was no end to its blueness. And then I would just feel a prayer.

Oh, Anne. You have such a way with words.

Weekly Log

That wraps up my month-specific spreads, but I’ll also share with you the other spreads I keep up throughout the month. First, my weekly logs.

I’m trying something new this time around…. In the past, I would lay out my weeklies at the start of a new week. But the procrastinator-perfectionist in me would often put off that task until I had perfect time to really focus on it. Which sometimes meant it ended up happening in the middle of the week! No bueno.

So, I went ahead and created weeklies for all five weeks of October, back to back, using the five colors of my color palette–one for each week.

Other changes I made this time around:

  • I’m going to focus on my “top three” goals for the week instead of “five.” It just feels more do-able for me.
  • I’m also adding a work-specific task list rather than mixing them in with other personal and family tasks to help improve my productivity on work days.
  • Beneath the chart of my weekly events and meals, I had some space for a little “anne-spiration.”

It was quite a challenge to narrow down my favorite Anne quotes to just five! Here are the ones I chose:

“It’s been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will.”

“Life is worth living as long as there’s a laugh in it.”

“It’s not what the world holds for you. It’s what you bring to it.”

“Dear old world… You are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you.”

“We are rich… We have our wonderful imaginations. We should be as happy as queens.”

With my weeklies created for the entire month, I now I have no excuse not to create my dailies! Speaking of….

Daily Log

I’m using the same structure for my dailies as last month:

  • I have my horizontal time tracker
  • The daily temperature and weather doodle
  • I plan to bring in the pen color from my weekly spread to my day and date icon. I even added the orange leaves from my title page for a little touch of fall.

For my time tracker, I use different colors to plot out how I want to spend my time that day (for instance blue for sleep, yellow for family time, pink for work).

Then I use my bullet system of circles for events or appointments and squares for tasks.

Wrap Up

That’s all she wrote, folks! October is all set up and ready to whisk me away from our very green, tropical fall here in Florida to the cool, crisp climes of Prince Edward Island with Anne as my sweet bujo companion.

And I hope you’ve found some Anne-spiration here today, too, my friend.
