15 Minute T-Shirt Yarn Infinity Scarf: Video Tutorial

Well, I’m on a kick with the infinity t-shirt scarves, it seems…because this is my second one in two days.  I guess I’m just too lazy to make a craft store run when I can just raid my closet for supplies.

Have t-shirt?  Will-upcycle-it-into-a-scarf.  A No-Sew T-Shirt Yarn Infinity Scarf…to be exact.

15 Minute T-Shirt Yarn Infinity Scarf. | This is one of those rare projects that really only takes 15 minutes. On your first try! This entertaining video tutorial will walk you through every fun step in the process. So, grab an old t-shirt from the closet and prepare to transform it into a chic infinity scarf!

Oh, and you know how involved my craft projects usually are?  Well, I’m going to blow your minds, friends, because this one only took me 15 minutes.  I repeat: 15 minutes!  I almost didn’t believe it myself but the phone timer don’t lie.

It’s almost so easy, it seems silly to do a video tutorial; then again, the process of creating t-shirt yarn is so much fun, you definitely need to see it in action.  Especially for the “Stretch Armstrong” part….  (You’ll see what I mean.)

Supplies

  • t-shirt (jersey or 100% cotton recommended; best with no side-seams or graphics below the armpit line)
  • fabric scissors or a rotary cutter
  • masking or painter’s tape
  • hot glue gun

Video Tutorial

So, after editing yesterday’s scarf tutorial and today’s, I have learned a few things about myself.

  • Overly-used phrases include, “Honestly…” and “of all time.”
  • When I concentrate, my jaw goes slack, and I still stick my tongue out, just like my Dad does when he plays the piano…just like I used to do when I played the piano.  It’s not attractive, people, but it’s real life.
  • I communicate a lot with my eyes.  To a creepy degree sometimes.
  • What am I doing teaching theatre and blogging D.I.Y. projects?  I should have been a hula dancer.  (Not.)
  • Thanks to college friends Crissie and Karis, I randomly sing exciting statements.  Yes, I’m that girl.

Those are just a few of my quirks.  Hopefully they give you a chuckle now when you spot them instead of make you cringe like they do me when I’m editing.

Oh, and you’ll want to watch through to the end where you can see the OUTTAKES.  Our camera experienced a bit of a “free-fall” during the filming (the ole-microphone-wire-tugging-on-the-tripod trick).  Though I assure you, no cameras were harmed in the filming of this video…although our table has a circle the shape of a camera lens permanently etched into it for nostalgia’s sake.

And without further ado, I give to you, today’s Scarf Week tutorial.

Or maybe you prefer the term, “narf…..”

I’m normally not a “green” person, but I’ll totally rock this:

Love the contrast of the braid texture on the t-shirt yarn.  It’s so comfy, too!

So, if you have 15 minutes to spare today, and an old t-shirt looking for a new lease on life, then this project’s for you.  Hope you have as much fun with this one as I did!

  1. Emily you are delightful!!! I have only just purchased a necklace like this and love it !!!

Now that I have found you I am going to arranged a winters day with the grandkids to make these!!!
    They are awesome!!
Thank you….you will feature the whole time during the process!!

    Hugs Christa

    1. Your grandkids are so fortunate to have such a fun grandmother as you! Enjoy crafting infinity scarves together! I’ll have fun making a virtual appearance, for sure. Ha ha.

  2. I loved this and decided to give it a try…. I let my 3yr olds help with the “making yarn” part and it came out great. With some good parts of the shirt still on the table I decided to make one for my little girl out of the sleeve. Now we have matching ones!! Thanks for the video:)

    1. Oh wow, Emily – – that gives me such joy that you were able to make this a Mommy-And-Me project! How fun! And just imagining the mini-version you made for your little girl gives me a smile from ear to ear. Thanks for taking the time to share! 😉

  3. Lauren,
I really love your very creative infinity scarf. You are talented
For sure and entertaining too. Martha S. has nothing on you.

  4. This scarf are fantastic! I’m looking forward to trying it. I have a question, though. Is it washable? I’m thinking about the hot glue.

  5. You are totally rocking that green scarf, my friend! Love both of these looks. And I have plenty of tees lying around that would probably be happy to be turned into scarves… mwah-ah-ah-ahhhh (insert mischievous emoticon here).

  6. Soooooo cute!!! I’m a big fan of t-shirt yarn, though it has been years since I’ve used it. Time to get back on the t-shirt yarn train! I’m impressed that you made two, actually, and they both look amazing! You’re seriously killing Scarf Week. (Bad pun?)

  7. Well, what a delight to watch YOU with my morning cup of Joe! Thanks for the great tutorial. A great way to recycle old t-shirts, though yours look much nicer than my old ones!! I think even Marmie has time to make one of these! Will have to go on my own scarf-hunt this week! Hey, if mine looks “askew” I can always say it was made during shark week and suffered a shark attack!

Did you know that apron you are wearing was made by your Mor Mor? Your are wearing her crafty sewing skills in more ways than one! Virtual Hug coming your way (another type of scarf? haha)

  8. Fabulous scarf-lace! LOL! And yet another great video 🙂 (Your poor camera…) T-shirt yarn rocks my socks. I’ll be making a few of these for Christmas gifts!

Your comments make my day!
