Tie-Dye Infinity Scarf: Video Tutorial

Did you catch the grand announcement yesterday?  It’s not only Shark Week in TV-land, but it’s Scarf Week in blogland!  Myself and three of my favorite bloggers are going to each be sharing a scarf tutorial a day for the next four days.  So, if you do the math, that’s 16 inspirational projects.  Go big or go home, right?

Today kicks off the first of my four scarf tutorials, and I am as giddy as a schoolgirl over how it turned out.  I give to you the…

Tie-Dye Infinity Scarf

How to transform a "plain white tee" into a vibrant Tie-Dye Infinity Scarf! Check out this entertaining and easy-to-follow step by step VIDEO TUTORIAL...just 1 of 16 during Scarf Week!

Not only is it a fun throwback to the tie-dye days of old (4th grade for moi), but it’s the perfect opportunity to upcycle an old t-shirt into a fashion accessory you actually want to wear.

Plus, it’s no-sew.

Have I convinced you that this needs to be your next D.I.Y. project yet?  {Smile.}

Supplies

Tie-Dye Infinity Scarf from a T-Shirt! Here are the supplies to make it happen.

  • fabric dye (I used *RIT liquid dye in aquamarine)
  • salt (non-iodized)
  • 1/2 tsp. dish-soap or laundry detergent
  • measuring cup
  • rubber gloves
  • plastic tablecloth or tarp
  • bucket / tub / sink / or crockpot (if you use a crockpot, be sure to use *these Reynolds Slow-Cooker Liners)
  • plain t-shirt (lighter is better; white is ideal)
  • rubber bands
  • fabric scissors
  • stirrer
  • tea-kettle / pot for boiling water

Video Tutorial

Now, one of my goals this year was to create more video content…and I’m realizing now that we’re over halfway through the year, I need to get on that!  So, this week, my tutorials are going to be in video form.  You know what that means….

Lots of cheese.  Contorted facial expressions.  Melodramatic music.  And loads of entertainment.  At least…I try!

So, watch the video tutorial below for the play-by-play on how to transform a t-shirt into a great white shark scarf and then into a gorgeous tie-dye wonder….

(You might as well resign yourself to the fact that this week’s tutorials will be riddled with bad Shark Week puns.  I possess no self-control when it comes to these sorts of things.  Apologies in advance.)

If for some reason you have trouble viewing the video above, click HERE.  And if you click the gear icon, you can change the default setting to H.D. for higher quality.

The “After”

Isn’t the blue just gorgeous?  And I can’t over-emphasize how very easy this tie-dye technique was (if you can even call it a technique).  As I said in the video, this would be fantastic to do with the whole family!
