Punched Tin Ornament Tutorial – Guest Posting at Lines Across
Hi, everybody! How is your tree trimming coming along?
- Ours is up…
- lights are on…
- tree skirt is made (post on that project later today!)…
- and I’ve created my first d.i.y. Christmas ornament of the season!
I was so honored that Rachel from one of my favorite blogs, Lines Across, invited me to be a part of her guest series on handmade ornaments. (Fun fact: Not only does Rachel also live in Orlando, but she shares my affinity for the board game Settlers of Catan! Major cool points there.)
My guest post today features my tutorial for creating a punched tin ornament. I had a lot of fun transforming an ordinary tin can from our recycle bin into something beautiful.
So, if you’re needing some ornament inspiration, click over to check it out, as well as the other handmade ornaments in the series. There will be two new handmade ornaments posted each day through Friday. So much d.i.y. goodness!
Hope you’re having a great Wednesday.
Turned out great! I’m pinning this to Pinterest. What a great tip to put rice in it. 😀
Thanks for the pin love, Bethany!
This is definitely going on my list of crafty TO DO’s. How cool! 🙂
Hooray! It was a lot of fun. And I recommend doing more than one at a time since there are so many steps…but it’s worth the time and effort. 😉
I should enter my attempt in the craft fail category. The first one I tried with frozen water pretty much wallowed the entire shape of the can. Fail 1. Then by the time I got around to my attempt at a trilogy of the word BOO, I finished the B with success and forgot I started that until after Halloween. Maybe next year. Yours turned our really great!
Well, at least you have a sense of humor about it all! And I probably would have had the same probably with the frozen water torking the can had I not come across the tip to add rice/sand. Who woulda thunk?!
The trilogy of BOO sounds like a lot of fun! I’d love to see that completed. 😉
Beautiful!! Such warmth and has that antique look!
Thanks! And you’re right about the antique look…and I’ve always been partial to ornaments that have a place for a Christmas light inside (like the little Christmas shop/house ornament on our tree growing up).
Love love the punched tin ornaments! So cozy and beautiful! Great job!
Thanks, Mom! I’m pleased with how they turned out. Now, we’ve just got to get the rest of the ornaments up on our tree!
such a great idea and i would have never thought to use rice and froze it to make it easier to punch holes!!! love it!
Thanks, Marina! Yes, the frozen rice worked wonders for punching the tin. Can’t imagine how many injuries it saved my fingers from!
You’re amazing! You stir all my creative juices but I should have started all this years ago.
Thanks for the call to Mor mor. Pop
Pop Pop, I don’t think your life has been short on creativity in the least!
Had such a lovely conversation with Mor Mor yesterday. Her voice was full of joy! Hope you BOTH have great birthdays this December!
