Glitter House Number Pumpkin: Fall-ify Florida Part II
First things first: To my friends and family in the north east, know that I’m praying hardcore for all impacted by Hurricane Sandy – – for peace and restoration, especially for Ocean Grove, N.J.

With just one more day until Halloween, I thought I’d glam up our pumpkin with some metallic spray paint and a glitter house number. This is the chilliest it has been in Florida since we moved this July; it actually feels like fall!
This was really quite easy, and I was able to use supplies I already had – – always a plus! Here’s a quick tutorial on how to glam up your own pumpkin.
SUPPLIES:
- A pumpkin! I used a real one, but a decorative one would be great to be able to re-use year after year.
- Metallic spray paint. I used Krylon satin metallic paint in nickel.
- Glitter in your color of choice! Gold was what I had, but orange would be really nice, too!
- X-acto knife.
- Elmer’s Glue.
- Dry paint brush.
Step 1: Spray paint your pumpkin!
2. Print out an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with your house number, word, monogram, symbol…whatevs! I decided to put our house number on the pumpkin. I created our mock-up in Microsoft Word using a free font I had found a while back, Dobkin Script.
3. Trace your text onto the pumpkin. I secured the paper to the pumpkin using a rubber-band, centering the sheet where I wanted it. Then, I used an x-acto knife to trace the numbers, which transferred a faint outline onto the pumpkin. If you’re using a real pumpkin, some of the juices might ooze out (ew!). [This is the closest I have ever gotten or ever want to get to doing surgery.]
4. Use Elmer’s Glue to fill in between the lines. This was the most tedious part; I found that having a paper-towel on hand to clean up any glue outside the lines really helped.
5. Sprinkle your glitter onto the glue. I recommend doing this after you finish each number so the glue doesn’t dry; also, glitter gets EVERYWHERE so doing it outside is best. I used a dry paintbrush to remove any excess glitter.
And you’re done! Your glitz n’ glam pumpkin is ready to wow passersby from your front porch, back deck, dining room table…wherever it finds a home!
To close, here’s a favorite Tolkein quote I recalled while working with glitter. It strikes me somewhere deep.

Thanks for being willing to put up with some of the photography of my early days! I had the hardest time capturing the contrast of the glitter numbers and the metallic pumpkin…oh well. At least I’ve grown in a year! 😉

The Sparkle Queen is a fantastic title, by the way! Thank you so much for the feature. You collected some really be-dazzling pumpkins, I must say. Honored to be in such grand company.

Looks great! What a fun idea! Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
Thanks a bunch for your sweet comment and for hosting, Jessi!
Beautiful, glittery pumpkin and loved the clear tutorial, and of course the Tolkien quote.
We still have two pumpkins (uncarved) from Halloween that I could decorate!!
You should do it…especially once the electricity comes back. There are lots of ideas online for painting pumpkins. They can definitely be great decor through Thanksgiving.
What a great idea! I love blinged out pumpkins! Great job! Thanks for linking up to the Keep Calm and Link Up! Hope to see you back next week!
The more bling, the better, I say! Thanks for stopping by, Jill.
Love this idea! Thanx for sharing the how to at THT.http://www.frommyfrontporchtoyours.com/2012/10/treasure-hunt-thursday-80-highlights.html
Thanks for hosting, Pamela!
You’re so creative Lauren! A silver pumpkin? Amazing and so glam! I’m also digging that quote. Spent a few moments ruminating on it!
That spray paint was purchased for another project that I never completed, so it was what I had on hand – – but I liked working in metallics.
And I know…that Tolkein with his killer writing…gets me every time.
Just stopping by to invite you to My Wednesday Linky party. http://diycraftyprojects.com/2012/10/whatcha-work-up-wednesday-linky-party-6.html
Thanks for the invite, Peggy!
Fabulous pumpkin. Great quote.
Thanks, Ann; yeah, that quote is one of my absolute faves.
Love the Pumpkin! I wonder if it will help preserve it too ? Hmmmm.
Hmmm…that’s a good question! In retrospect, I probably should have used a decorative pumpkin…but Mark brought this one home and it was just begging for some glam. 😉 We’ll see how long it lasts!
very very pretty! One year, after Halloween was over, my pumpkins were still in very good shape so I spray painted them gold and kept them in the front garden through out Christmas….drove my husband crazy! 🙂 Happy Halloween
Ha ha; well, if it makes you feel any better, we left our Christmas tree up until Valentine’s Day last year. I actually ended up decorating it with hearts! Lol.
Very pretty!
Thanks, Great Lakes Girl! (Sounds like a superhero name.)
