Burlap Love Banner & Free Cut File by The Thinking Closet

Since sharing my January Silhouette Challenge project, exciting things have been happening behind the scenes.  I created a Facebook group for Silhouette users looking to collaborate and encourage one another (wanna join us?  shoot me an email!).  And our group has grown to over 20 women in a matter of a few weeks.  Several of those lovely ladies are joining me in The Challenge this month!  How cool is that?  Look out for links to their projects at {read more…}

My First Crafty Contributor Post!

Winter Mason Jar Lanterns by The Thinking Closet

Today, over at Or So She Says, I am kicking off my first craft contributor post with a tutorial on how to make Winter Mason Jar Lanterns: It was an honor to receive Mariel’s invitation to join her team of contributors this year.  As a monthly craft contributor, I’ll share a project, tip, or tutorial during the first week of every month.  I’ll be sure to give y’all a heads up when I do, so {read more…}

Pallet Christmas Photo Display

Pallet Christmas Card Display by The Thinking Closet

I know, I know…it’s Christmas Eve Eve, and I’m still making things.  I promise, this is the last project!  After this, it’s church, then time to pack for our trip to New York (icanhardlycontainmyexcitement!). Remember all of those pallets we piled on top of our car?  Well, we’ve had great fun using the wood for various projects here and there.  I had this idea for a Christmas card & photo display that Mark helped me {read more…}

D.I.Y. Twine Ball Tree Topper

D.I.Y. Twine Ball Tree Topper by The Thinking Closet

In the words of my husband, “Welp, better late than never.” Even though there are only four days until Christmas, I decided to make my own tree topper.  We keep our tree up through January anyway, so it’ll have some quality time on this year’s tree as well as on the trees in years to come.  I found my inspiration atop the trees in our church’s lobby.  Here are a few pics I snapped on {read more…}

Expected and Unexpected Guests

Christmas Photo Collage by The Thinking Closet

What a whirlwind week it has been! We’ve been busy hosting company…and not just the human kind.  A group of possums have taken up residency in the crawl space above our bedroom.  That’s right: possums.  (We have visual confirmation thanks to Mark’s headlamp.)  Their partying gets extra rowdy from 2 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., and between the air vent and thin walls, it almost sounds like they’re in the room with us.  Suffice it to {read more…}

D.I.Y. No-Sew Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt

D.I.Y. No-Sew Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt by The Thinking Closet

I like ruffles…A LOT.  And my new obsession is burlap. So, when I saw Ashley Johnston’s tutorial for a ruffle Christmas tree skirt, I knew it was my next d.i.y. project.  Here’s my completed skirt: I’m in love with how it turned out, however, let me shoot straight: this project is not for the faint of heart. It’s time-consuming.  Although a few bloggers mentioned this only taking two hours, it took me closer to eight!  {read more…}

Wood Pallet Sign Tutorial

Wood Pallet Sign Tutorial via The Thinking Closet

It was like giving your Mom a baseball mitt for her birthday. For Mark’s b-day last week, one of his gifts was the opportunity for us to create a wood pallet sign together!  Mark is passionate about wood-working, so I figured he could tackle the wood pallet part, and I could do the lettering – – it would be a team effort! To start, we needed rustic wood.  So, we went to our local lumber {read more…}

Glitter House Number Pumpkin: Fall-ify Florida Part II

DIY Glitter House Number Pumpkin via The Thinking Closet

First things first: To my friends and family in the north east, know that I’m praying hardcore for all impacted by Hurricane Sandy – – for peace and restoration, especially for Ocean Grove, N.J. *                    *                    *                    * With just one more day until Halloween, I thought I’d glam up our pumpkin with some metallic spray paint and a glitter house number.  This is the chilliest it has been in Florida since we moved this {read more…}

Hot Drinks Station: Making Guests Feel at Home

Hot Drinks Station via The Thinking Closet

{This post was written earlier this afternoon….} To me, nothing is quite as soothing or homey as a warm cup of goodness clasped between your hands.  Can I get an “amen”? My most amazing parents are flying in today {jumping up and down} from New York to visit us in FL for the first time.  So, in preparation for their highly-anticipated arrival, I set up a special “hot drinks station” in our guest room.  What do {read more…}

Felt Flower Wreath: Fall-ify Florida Part I

Felt Flower Wreath via The Thinking Closet

Though we’re still rocking highs of 85 degrees in Florida, though leaves are still green and flip flops are still the footwear of choice, I’ve decided…it’s time…TO FALL-IFY. I wouldn’t consider myself a “wreath girl,” but a little while back, I had come across a winter wreath on Pinterest by Colour Her Hope that had me inspired.  So, I decided to take on fall colors for my version and try my hand at the popular {read more…}

If you like it then you’d better put a label on it! – Tutorial

DIY Chalkboard Label Tutorial by The Thinking Closet

Since moving to our new place in Orlando, we’ve had to get a bit…creative when it comes to our kitchen.  It’s a rather small space and the pantry cabinets are tall and deep.  I knew right away we’d need to pick up some more cabinet shelves from Bed Bath & Beyond.  And then, when we were at Lowe’s, I picked up these cute dark turquoise woven baskets to attempt some semblance of organization.  All they {read more…}
