How I Lost All of My Blog Subscribers

How I Lost All of My Blog Subscribers | A Tragedy (or is it a Comedy?) by Lauren of The Thinking Closet

My eyes latched onto a single solitary number–so solitary, it doesn’t even really exist: 0 That’s right.  Zero. Within milliseconds, my mind comprehended what that number was telling me, and my body flooded with heat.  Blood rushed to my face.  I felt one thing and one thing only: panic.  I didn’t know what to do, so I stood up, walked from the living room couch to the kitchen and just started pacing.  I put my {read more…}

How to Revamp Your “About” Page

How to Revamp Your About Page - Practical Blogging Tips from The Thinking Closet

Fact.  My “About” page hadn’t been edited since I first started blogging in September 2012. Fact.  My “About” page was written in the third person, like an author bio on the inside back cover of a book.  All of my posts are written in the first person.  The disparity was killing me. Fact.  My “About” page said very little about me and my blog at all.  How much can be said in one paragraph of six sentences? {read more…}

The hills are alive with the sound of blogging….

Navigating The Uncharted Waters of Blogger Puberty by The Thinking Closet

Blogging is an interesting bird. It’s one of those things that I’ll admit I had no real concept of before taking a leap to start this blog in September last year.  Sure, I knew that all of those purdy pictures on Pinterest had to come from somewhere, but I didn’t really know all of the time, effort, and heart that one pours into blogging if you really commit to it.  It’s an investment. And I {read more…}

I’m a Blog Angel: The Big Reveal

I'm A Blog Angel - The Big Reveal by The Thinking Closet

My career as an angel began long, long ago.  Back in 1987 to be exact.  In truth, most little girls between the ages of 3 and 6 are type-cast as angels for their church Christmas pageant, and I was no exception.  Here are a few snapshots I found of my first angel gig when looking through old albums during our time in New York this Christmas: Now, check out my 7th grade Halloween costume: Now, {read more…}

I’m a Blog Angel! {Shhh…don’t tell.}

This fall, I kept hearing a buzz about this “blog angel” project by Rosie from Craftbotic.  I read posts about bloggers helping other bloggers – – in secret – – for an entire month whether it be through commenting on their posts, amping up their traffic through social media, swapping sponsor buttons…you get the picture. In past blog angel editions, each blog angel has also had a secret blog angel assigned to them…however, in keeping {read more…}

10 Tips for New Bloggers…From a New Blogger

Ten Tips for New Bloggers...From a New Blogger via The Thinking Closet

It was two months ago today when I clicked that glowing button on the WordPress homepage inviting me to “sign up now.”  After much deliberation, I gave my blog a name, wrote my first post, and bolted full-speed ahead into blogland. Wow.  To think that just two months ago, blogger jargon like “link parties,”  “trackbacks,” and “grabbing a button” might as well have been Greek to me…. I have learned a lot in these first {read more…}

The Namesake

Little Humans: Lauren & Lisbeth
Oh yeah. Rockin' the side pony.

As a small human, I spent a lot of time CREATING.  I credit my parents for passing on their artistic genes to me, but also for giving me a space in which to create.  A special place.  A secret place.  A thinking closet of my own. The closet was deep and wide, but the ceiling was too low for big humans.  It was almost as if it was created with my exact height specifications in {read more…}
