DIY Flower Monogram Letter: Timelapse Video Tutorial

DIY Flower Monogram Letter for a Blooming First Birthday Bash, inspired by spring flowers in pink, blush, and white. Such a fun DIY party idea for a woodland floral-themed celebration, spring fling, or botanical garden party! Love the timelapse video tutorial!

Juniper’s First Birthday Party was theme-less for quite a while there…that is until, I found some theme-spiration in her *flower crown. A Blooming Birthday Bash it would be!

And the first item on my DIY list was a Flower Monogram Letter “J” to display as party decor. You see, I had been swooning over everyone and their mother’s floral monogram projects in blogland for ages now. So, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to try my hand at making one of my own.

Now, dear reader, I’ll have you know I have zero experience with flower arranging…and yet I was pleasantly surprised by how do-able it was for me. I managed to pull off this project in 1 hour and 15 minutes, having heaps of fun all the while.

In fact, I made my very first timelapse video while working on this project, so I could bring you along for the DIY ride. Check it out below or by clicking HERE. Then, read on for the quick and dirty tutorial.

Supplies

Tutorial

Step 1. Use an x-acto knife to remove the top of the paper mache letter and any cardboard filling, so it’s completely hollow.

Step 2. Use an electric carving knife, Xacto razor saw, or sharp bread knife to cut your floral foam bricks so they fill the interior of your letter. Secure the pieces to the base with hot glue.

Step 3. Use wire cutters to cut your faux flowers with stems long enough to poke through the foam.

Step 4. Go to town filling up the foam with flowers and leaves, using the hot glue if needed for shorter stems or leaves.

That’s all, folks! I think that might have been the shortest tutorial I have ever written. It really was that easy.

Tips

  • When using hot glue, wear silicone finger caps from your hot glue gun helper kit that you asked for last birthday because it’s that essential for protecting those crafty hands of yours.
  • Add in leaves around the edges to help cover up areas where the foam is peeking through.
  • Filler flowers and pieces with different textures really help fill tiny gaps and add interest.

Party Time!

And here’s the DIY Flower Monogram Letter in action at Juniper’s Blooming Birthday Bash:

I love how delicate and feminine it looks in the pink, blush, and white color palette. The best part is that not only did it help tie in the “blooming birthday” theme, but it’ll live on as wall art in her nursery.

In addition to party decor, I could see floral monogram letters making for great front door decor with a family monogram or for great baby shower gifts.
