30 D.I.Y. Baby Onesies
One of your 31 amazing questions for my Birthday Video this year was, “What is your favorite craft to do?” And do you remember my answer?
“Baby onesies!”
Of course.
You’ve seen a slew of them here on The Thinking Closet in the past, and you’re about to see a whole bunch more.
I’ve reached out to my friends over at The Silhouette Challenge Facebook Group I coordinate to give me their onesie best…and boy did they deliver.
I’ve gathered up a collection of 30 fab-tastic baby onesies bound to bring you inspiration in this spring season of baby showers. While we all used our Silhouette machines to help us create these, you can surely adapt so many of these tutorials using good old-fashioned craft supplies like fabric, scissors, and paint.
Let’s kick this round-of off in three-two-onesie! (Sorry. I had to.)

Note: If you’d like to pin some of these projects, please click through to the blogs from whence they came to honor the original source (if there’s a post on it). And I’ll include my onesie collection at the end!

Here are all of my D.I.Y. onesie tutorials:
It’s a Wrap!
Did you catch it was more like 44 onesies since many of the photos featured multiples? Seriously, so much onesie fun-sie, I strongly encourage you to clear your weekend schedule so you can get your craft on. And once you D.I.Y. a onesie or two, it’s very likely to become your favorite craft to do, too!
Just a reminder that tomorrow night, May 31st, wraps up the current Silhouette Promotion on machine bundles and specialty media. You can learn all about that HERE.

Hi there! I’m an older brother of a sister who’s about to have her first child. Our mom passed away from breast cancer about a month ago. Before she passed, she told us if she had to come back as any animal, it would be a whale. So basically I need that “grandma whale always love me” onesie. I tried to buy but it says that the designer has stepped away from her etsy shop. Any advice for an uncreative uncle about how to proceed???
I’m so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. Virtual hug comin’ your way. And I think the onesie idea for your sister will be a beautiful tribute! Ya know, Etsy is FULL of amazing craftsmen and women who are SO excited to create custom designs like this. Just pop over to Etsy.com and search “custom onesie” or “custom onesie design.” You’ll find a lot of folk (like this one!) who could pretty easily recreate the onesie that inspired you! Best of luck to you, Matthew.
Thanks for linking up to Tip Me Tuesday linky party. {knuckle bumps} Did you know that I can “lend” your blog posts my Google page rank for better search engine traffic? {fabulous} If you upload at least 2 images, 2 steps, and blog post URL into your Tip Junkie craft room, you’ll be in business! {wink} ~ Laurie {a.k.a. the Tip Junkie}

What a fantastic roundup! I’m sad that I didn’t have my Silhouette when my boys were in onesies! Although my sister doesn’t have any kids yet… I see onesie gifts in her future, lol! Thanks so much for sharing, friend!
~Abby =)
Great roundup, so many cute ideas!!!
Thanks, Teri! Our group sure is a talented one…yourself included!
I think you need to tone down all the cuteness! Heck I may just go out and try to find an adult sized onesie! Ha no in all reality, there’s a whole lotta talent and ah-mazing onesies out there!! I now have 1001 ideas for future nieces and nephews.
You have me snickering over here at the thought of adult onesies. I think I may need to go on a quest for one, too! Thanks for the brilliant idea, Trisha!
Such great ideas! Adorable!
Thanks, Kristi! I’m a sucker for cute onesies, what can I say?
These are all so awesome & cute! Thanks for rounding up such a great selection of ideas! I’ve already gone to three baby showers in the past month; now I just need to get up the courage to try some HTV with my Silhouette and I’ll be a diy baby onesie making machine!
It really is that time of year, isn’t it? Oh, and you can TOTALLY tackle HTV, Emily. I believe in you! The 3 most important things to remember are: a) to mirror your design before cutting (so it cuts backwards), b) to use a THIN piece of cotton…the thinner the better, and c) to apply pressure. Use that muscle! And you’ll be good to go!
These are so clever and fun! Pinning for future use (wink wink)!!
Ha ha to you and your winks!
WOW! Could these be any cuter? What a creative group! So many amazing ideas.
Gotta love those Silhouette Challengers! 😉
ahhhh…just packed up my little man’s last onzies and it makes me sad 🙁 Guess I’ll just have to make lots of onezie gifts for my friends who are crazy enough to have more than 2 kids! Haha. These are so cute Lauren, pinned!
Ha ha. Yes, you can totally live vicariously through all of those crazy baby-making friends of yours! Lol. I know you’ll DIY some fabulous ONES. Thanks for the pin-love, too, friend!

Ha ha. I know, I had the same impulse when pulling this together. Must…create…all…the onesies! Ha ha. The inspiration never ends. Thanks for sharing yours with us!
I love this roundup Lauren! The onesies are so cute and they have inspired me to make more! I adore the smash cake photo. Thanks for including my onesie.
Yay! So happy to hear you say that, Kelly. And one of my roommates from college emailed me to say that when she has a little one of her own, she is commissioning me to make the “New Kid on the Block” onesie for her. To which I said I of course would be delighted to do! Maybe I can even get you to sign the tag! 😉
