Berrylicious Heart-Shaped Ice Cubes
Do you ever purchase something thinking, “I have no idea what I’ll use this for, but I know it will find its purpose one day?”
That’s exactly what happened one year ago when I was strolling past the Target $1 bins (we’ve already established the magnetic force field around that section). My eyes honed in on some rubber heart-shaped molds, which somehow found their way home with me, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting an opportunity to use them ever since! With Valentine’s Day coming up, I knew it was now or never.
So, I decided to break out of the mold (ha!) and instead of your typical chocolate hearts, I made some ice cubes instead. And not just any old ice cubes, but berry-infused ones. I give to you, Berrylicious Heart-Shaped Ice Cubes!
And yup, it’s really just as easy as you think it is!
Recipe Run-Down
Just pull out your fresh or frozen fruit (I obviously did a berry theme, but you wouldn’t have to!).
Go all Emeril on them and chop, chop away!
Mix ’em up in a bowl to create a berrylicious salsa of sorts.
Meanwhile, fill a pitcher with water or juice or as I did, Raspberry Ice Crystal Light.
First, you’ll want to fill your molds with the berrylicious salsa, and then you can place them in the sink and pour the liquid overtop to fill them up.
{While these molds were finds at Target last year, I did spy some similar ones on Amazon, and this one in particular (affiliate link) is an ice cube tray that you can also bake if you want to! Which opens up a whole ‘nother world of possibilities….}
Then, it’s freezer time! This is the hardest step in the process: waiting for your cutie heart-shaped ice cubes to freeze.
Tick…tock…tick…tock….
Flash-forward to four hours later when they’re good and frozen. I just flipped over the mold and used my two thumbs to gently pop the hearts out (they remained perfectly intact!).
And seeing them splayed out there on the cutting board, they were even more lovely looking than I imagined! And I thought, “Pop a stick on these puppies, and these would make great frozen treats for kids!”
I filled my mason jar with water and dropped three hearts inside. Within moments, the clear water had turned berrylicious pink. And taking a sip of the water, I felt like I was transported to a day spa. I imagine it’s what might be inside the goblet of something cool and refreshing that those first class passengers drink. (Any Brian Regan fans in the house?)
Or if you have something sparkling on hand, these berrylicious cubes would spiff ’em up all the more! And if you’re hosting a Valentine’s Day bash, well then, you know how delighted your guests would be to find these Berrylicious Heart-Shaped Ice Cubes just chillin’ in the ice bucket.
Next time, I’m going to try a strawberry mint version…I think that would be divine.
And what do you think, dear reader? What would you infuse in some ice cubes to make your drinks prettier and yummier?

Pinned this and will look for those Target molds!! They must be out there somewhere. The spa idea sounds heavenly!
I wonder if my heart-shaped chocolate molds would work with fruit and juice like this? though they are less deep! I heart you, Lauren!!
These are so cute, such a good idea! 🙂
Thanks, Aimee! I know, I’m a sucker for cute food! 😉
Oh my! I love this idea! I have been making a lovely hibiscus tea for years. These berrylicious ice cubes would be the perfect addition!
We would love to have you stop by and share your post on Tell Me About It Tuesday. I think it would be a great addition. http://www.sweetsillysara.com/2014/01/tell-me-about-it-tuesday-3.html
Ooooo yes! I love the idea of popping a few of these in some hibiscus tea! Yum.
These are too cute! I love that when they melt they’ll just make your drink more delicious instead of watered down! Thanks so much for sharing this at the Creativity Unleashed party, I’m pinning this for sure!
That’s right, Jessi! I think I need to start making iced coffee cubes for that very purpose when it comes time to switch from hot drinks to cold. Farewell to watered down drinks!
Hi Lauren. I know what you mean about the dollar bins. They get me every time! This is a great idea and such a fun way to spruce up a drink! I’d love for you to come share it at The Makers going on at TinySidekick.com. Hope to see you there!
Seriously, those dollar bins at Target…they’re dangerous! I try to put my blinders on, but inevitably, some magical item will catch the corner of my eye, and I’m a goner. Just glad I finally got to put these molds to use!
I am bookmarking this berrylicious looking recipe. I can’t wait to make it. You have made it look easy to make. My favorite kind of recipe.
Yay! Yeah, the reason you’ve only seen me post 2 recipes on this blog is because I, too, just opt for easy…and oftentimes, I feel like they’re too easy to post. But I made an exception for this one, and I’m so glad you like it, Jenny Lynn!
I love this and am featuring you at our Link It or Lump It party tomorrow. Be sure to stop by and grab a feature button!
