The Friday Five: Kids Being Awesome

I’ve always loved kids.  Even when I was a kid myself, I loved kids younger than me; and I could not wait to be old enough to post a flier with those pull-off tabs on our church bulletin board advertising my skills as a “Mother’s Helper.”  It boggled my mind that I could get paid to play hide-and-go-seek all day.  Seriously?!  What better job is there than that?

Even in my early twenties, I remember church coffee hours where I would intentionally choose to run around with the little kids rather than small-talk with the adults because well…kids are awesome.  They say it like it is.  They think outside the box.  They exude enthusiasm.  They wear their heart on their sleeve.  They’re willing to suspend disbelief and believe in dogs who can talk.

Okay, and maybe at the end of the day, I’m just a big kid myself.  So, sue me!

Well, this week, in my hopping around the interwebs, I was reminded of the awesomeness of kids.  Their tender hearts…

…and their plain ole cuteness!

And so, for today’s Friday Five, I have 5 inspirational links to share of Kids Being Awesome via 1 audio reel and 4 videos.

And you might want a box of tissues nearby because some will make you laugh to tears and some will just bring on the waterworks because they are so touching.  (Don’t say I didn’t warn you….)

Oh, and as per usual, since it’s the Friday Five, I’m limiting myself to 5 word intros.  Let’s see what we’ve got for ya!

10 Heartwarming Videos: Kids Edition

Oh, and one of my hobbies is actually collecting videos of kids being awesome.  {No joke.  I keep a running list in a Gmail draft.  Because where better to keep a collection of links?}  Last December, I compiled a playlist of 10 of my all-time favorite kid vids.  I thought I’d share a link to it here for those of you who may have missed this compilation the first time around!

  1. “It happens like once or twice or maybe like 3 times in every life.” HAHAHAHA So good!!!

The “open, open ooooh” seriously had me going back for more! Oh my goodness!!!

That dad is the coolest, and his 4 year old can sing better than most people I know!!!

Oh and major tissues in order. WOW!!!!!

Fantastic collection, Laure. I loved all of it!

  2. Lovely videos, I was a play leader at my son’s Sunday School. It was my job to run the children around, howling like Banshees so they could be nice and calm after. It worked well. My good friend wrote this book and some more after which I MUST share with you.
Violet is a little girl who thinks outside the box. I am so proud of my friend. I think Violet will be helping lots of kids and entertaining them too. Keep that playfulness, I have never lost mine!

  3. Those were all great! I especially liked your sharing about being a mommy’s helper, and then the little girl who kept stopping her dad (a control-freak perhaps?) with “shhh there’s a firework coming”…and the secret football play!
These were just what I needed at the end of a long and busy work-week!
    Hugs!!

    1. Thanks for sharing about why the little girl kept stopping her dad…her fear of the fireworks. I guess I didnt’ get that the first time around. It was fun listening to it with you as you drove me to the airport a few weeks ago.

      1. It was fun! Thanks for jogging my memory about what we listened to. Our hearts were warm and bellies were full (with First Watch breakfast, remember?). Such a sweet visit!
