The Friday Five: A World Where There are Octobers
I’ve never appreciated the onset of fall more than I have since becoming a Floridian. After the scorching heat of the long summer months, it’s such a welcomed respite. And while we’re far from cardigan weather, it has gotten more bearable. Mark and I even went on a bike ride yesterday in the late afternoon, which would have been unheard of just a few weeks ago. Yes, yes…I already have visions of fall past-times dancing in my head:
Playing in the leaves…
…apple picking…
…carving pumpkins…
…sipping mugs of hot cider.
The Friday Five
So, in consideration of my appreciation for this new season, I give you five fall-related links that I came across in my jaunts around the inter-webs this week. And I’ll introduce them in five words and five words only. Because it’s always a challenge for me and my wordy self; and I like a good challenge. Don’t you?
1. Me, too, Anne. Me, too.
2. My new favorite fall wreath.
3. It’s salad, so it’s healthy.
4. Make the world more awesome.
5. FREE eBook of Halloween Projects!
Yes, you may recognize some familiar faces on that eBook cover: indeed, that is Mark and me in our punny Black-Eyed-Pea Halloween Costumes from last year. {Get it? We’re literally black-eyed Ps! *snort laugh.*}
So, I conspired with some of my favorite bloggers on an eBook in which I share my round-up of 20 Punny Halloween Costume Ideas. There’s a whole slew of other creative Halloween projects included that you don’t want to miss! And we’re offering it up to our readers fo’ FREE because…well…you mean a lot to us. And we like to lavish you with gifts as much as possible. So, here you have it!
{To download the eBook in pdf form, just click on the cover image above.}

I’m really excited to send you off to visit Thalita today because get this: she is in the midst of a 31 Day Series Challenge! {Perhaps you’ve seen these around blogland? Bloggers tackle one subject for the month of October and share posts on that subject each and every day. It’s wild! And ambitious! And I tip my blogging hat to her and her cohort.}
Well, to find out the inspiring subject Thalita has chosen, click here. And then, be sure to check out her Friday Five post here, which of course is in keeping with her new series. {I’m intentionally witholding her Friday Five subtitle from you…because, well, it would ruin the surprise. Go see for yourself. Go! Right now!}
Annnnd, in the words of Porky Pig, that’s all folks.
Congrats on being published in your first e-book sis! Looking forward to the next one!!! p.s. Why is a man dancing with a pumpkin mask so funny? It’s hilarious to me…the longer I look at it, the more I crack up!
“Amazing” was Mor Mor’s comment after reading this blog. I agree! Wow, an e-book! Is this your first?
Keep writing! So proud of you!
Love that you read my blog post to her! And yes, this was my first foray into the land of e-Books…and not my last! Excited to dive into more serious e-Book writing in the new year. Will have to fill you in more on that during your December visit!
Don’t forget…let’s discuss this e-Book plan when I see you!
I love how you described everything using only 5 words! And is that your first e-book? Congrats!!! Yay!!! 🙂
Lauren I love this post and that Kid President video is… well, awesome!! Just watched it with my son. And congrats on your eBook – I need to check that out! I like your comment that “we hit publish” every day. I totally agree – we are all writers and publishers in a sense! Hope you have a wonderful week! xo
I loved the “be awesome” video. I am coaching an 11 year old for a singing audition on Tuesday and the video gave me a lovely boost.
Wasn’t it awesome? I loved the reminder that we are all teachers. And I’m delighted to know it may have given you that push to “be awesome” and empower that 11 year old to be her awesome self.
(How cool that you coach singing. If we lived closer, we could direct musicals together! I could take the acting bit, you could take the singing…Broadway here we come!) 😉
Lauren I am in LOVE with the “Be Awesome” video!! I will be showing that Monday on the morning announcements via closed circuit TV! What a message…THANK YOU for sharing it!!
Also a FREE BOOK!! What else could a Reading Teacher ask for!! Yahoo!
Thanks for starting my weekend in a Happy Way!
xoxo
Wow! I’m delighted this video spoke to you, and that it will broaden its reach by being shared at your school on Monday. It’s such a valuable reminder for us all, isn’t it? Teachers and students. Life is school, and you’ve gotta show up! (And be more awesome.)
Aw, and thanks for your enthusiasm about the eBook! Ha ha. Hope it’s some fun and light reading for ya, and gives you a spark of inspiration! (Though I don’t think you’re short on inspiration. Not by any means.)
Just realized I still need to read your post on your kitchen revamp! Ahhh! {Heading over now.}
I live in FL too so I can sooooooo relate. Thanks for a great post and awesome ebook!
Sigh. So ready for the cooler days ahead! But also, trying to stay positive and appreciate the sunshine!
You’re so welcome; hope it’s a fun read, Glenna!
I am SO behind on answering mails, reading blogs, commenting.. ugh. So sorry, friend!
However, I did also post this photo, and the original link is under the photo here (I can’t open it at this hotel, supposedly the contents are “erotic”.. haha what?!) http://www.dearlifeweneedtotalk.com/2013/09/monday-inspiration-v17.html
Will hopefully be back IRL and online soon!
Hugs!
Don’t feel any pressure from me, Johanna! I’m in a perpetual state of behind-ness, so I seriously have nothing but grace for you and everyone else for that matter! 😉 I figured you’ve been busy what with your transition to the world of academia and all. Can’t wait to hear how things are going! And to catch up on DEAR LIFE….
Also, how wonderful is it that we posted the same photo?! And that you have the image source for me?! #twinning Just emailed to the etsy shop owner to make sure it’s okay I posted her image with the link-back. Gotta show those etsy shop owners some major love and respect!
I loved all of these, but I totally needed that kid president video!!! Fridays 4th block are pretty uninspiring, leaving me with the question… why do I do this???? But this little guy made me smile! I’ll try to bring some awesome with me to school on Monday 🙂
And congrats on your first e-book! That’s so exciting… go Lauren!!! May it be the first of many!
So glad this was what you needed, friend. And if you need more smiles, Kid President has a whole slew of videos. I got sucked into watching them teh other night for probably WAY longer than I should have. He’s so endearing! And I loved learning more about him and how they make the videos. Here’s one of their “behind the scenes” videos:

And I’m sorry to hear you have a bit of a rough group on Friday. Hey, maybe you can show this video to your Friday 4th block students! Perhaps it could pep them into shape!
And thanks for the high-five about the eBook! It was something fun I got invited to be a part of by some blogger friends, and it definitely inspired me to keep on riding the eBook train! 😉 Love ya, G!
And me too, Anne…
Oh, and “It’s salad, so it’s healthy.” – I’m gonna name all the food salad. ALL. THE. FOOD!
And also congratulations to being included in a book! How awesome!
Have a nice weekend (I had to think twice if it’s really weekend. National holidays and working 24/7 make me confused! But it really IS friday. Interesting! ;))
Love, Midsommarflicka
Ha ha! I like that approach; name all the food, “salad.” Instant health, right?! 😉 Problem solved.
And thanks for the eBook congrats! It was fun to work on a collaborative project like this! Makes me thirsty for more.
Oh no, so sorry you’re working 24/7, my friend! Hopefully, this is just for a season, and this too shall pass. I hope you get some quiet moments in the days ahead to rest and have a Sabbath, even if it’s only part of the day. Major HUGS coming your way, Midsommarflicka.
So I can be eagerly awaiting any new book-project? I would grant it to you!
Thankfully, it is just for a season. A season that ends at the end of October. Until then I’ll be finally finishing my bachelor thesis while preparing and running the Welcome Week for the new students at the same time… and eating a lot of now named salad!
Major hugs coming the way back across the pond <3
What fun! And thank you for the great book, Lauren . . . love it! 🙂
Thanks, Katherine! Turns out anyone can create an eBook! You just need some motivation to get ‘er done and a pdf creator. Anyway, it was really fun to be a part of a collaborative eBook for my first go at this. Oh, and I’m just grinning from ear to ear to think of the eBooks you could create! It’d be a fun way to merge three of your passions: writing and teaching and blogging! (Ha ha. Like how I’m planning out your life for you?)
You are hilarious, saw your Black eyed P’s picture; made me laugh again! 😉 you look so intimidating there ha!ha! 😉 & what a great book you guys put together; it’s perfect for Halloween projects; I loved it very much! great Friday 5 too!
wish you a lovely weekend Lauren!
Ha ha. Yes, that’s my tough face. I try it on my students sometimes, but because I can never keep a straight face, it usually doesn’t last very long, and they know me too well to take it seriously. Lol. And thanks so much for checking out the eBook and for the warm words! Happy weekend, friend! (Have fun with your Kitchen Challenge.)
I am in LOVE with all five of these things. Love.
Ok, you’re a published author now! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!! That’s totally amazing!!! I just went through it all and there are some really awesome ideas in there! Way to go!!!
Really?! In Love?! Now you’re making me blush. 🙂
Ha ha, and I guess indeed I am published! Though if you think about it, we click “publish” on our blogs several times a week…so, perhaps we are all published, mmmm? Time to start living life with our heads held high as published authors. Yeah!
