Mason Jar Art with Sketch Pens & Silhouette Giveaway

Have you ever had seller’s remorse?  I have.

I sold a collection of approximately 20 vintage aqua Ball mason jars after our wedding in 2009 and have regretted it ever since.  I had initially gathered them for the table centerpieces at our wedding.  Here they are in action:

I hunted them down on eBay, stubbornly refusing to pay no more than $7 per jar.  Then, I sold them for a fraction of that cost at a resale shop in Columbus, OH on a whim.  I think I was feeling the rare urge to purge and thought, “When will I ever need 20 aqua Ball mason jars again?”

{Oh, you foolish, foolish girl.  When wouldn’t you need 20 aqua Ball mason jars?}

Well, I’ve been slowly but surely recollecting them.  I think we’re up to 4!

I don’t know, there’s just something about that moment when a ray of light passes through an aqua Ball mason jar, and everything is suddenly right with the world; it’s almost as if we catch a glimpse of heaven….  Okay, so maybe I was channeling Nicholas Sparks for a moment there, but cut me some slack!  I’ve got a lot of remorse here.  {Smile.}

Well, dear reader, now that you know about my obsession, you can imagine my delight when I happened up on this whimsical hand-painted graphic by Twigg Studios, which she offers up for FREE on her blog.  Click here to check it out, along with several other mason jar freebies.

I knew I needed to do something with it.  But what?

Enter the Silhouette sketch pens!

Silhouette Sketch Pens

Now, you’ve seen me wield these sketch-tastic wonders before when I created the place-cards for my gold animal buddies to display, remember?

Sketch Pen Place Cards | A Tutorial and Special Promotion by The Thinking Closet

Well, I thought an aqua Ball mason jar would look mighty fine all sketched up and hanging on our bedroom wall.  I already had a frame I had picked up at Target….ya know…just because you can never leave Target empty-handed.  It has a pretty big matte and a 5″ x 7″ opening, which I thought would suit the project well.

Target Frame

So, in a few simple steps, here’s how I turned Twigg Studio’s image into a sketch-penned piece of art!

How to transform a graphic into sketch pen art!

Mason Jar Art with Sketch Pens: A Tutorial

Step 1.  First, I right clicked on Twigg Studio’s graphic, copied it, and then pasted it in my Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software.  Then, I traced it.  Since the image was hand-painted, I was left it with excess dots and lines I didn’t need, so I used my eraser tool to clean it up.

Step 2.  To help me size it, I created a 5″ x 7″ box to show my boundaries, and I sized the mason jar inside of it.  Then, I created a 7″ x 9″ shape around it all, which would later become a cut line.

Step 3.  Next, I needed to disconnect the top of the jar from the bottom, so they would be two separate pieces (I knew I wanted to sketch them in two different colors).  So, I used the handy dandy knife tool to freehand a cut right around the lid of the jar.  Once the two ends of my knife lines met, I released the knife tool, and the lid and jar became two separate pieces.  (Though you can leave the lid where it is.)

Step 4.  I decided I wanted to add to the text, “PERFECT MASON,” which appears on all of my Ball jars.  So, I fiddled around in the fonts until I found one that I thought most closely resembled the text on the jar: Microsoft Sans Serif.  I just increased the offset by .005 to widen the font a smidge, and then added it to my jar shape!

Step 5.  Now, comes the fun part!  Sketching!  The key is to keep your mat loaded in the machine until you’re finished with all the sketching and cutting you want to do.  Basically, you need to tell your Silhouette which aspects of the shape to sketch or cut and which to leave be.  So, first click on the scissors to open the cut style window.  Then, holding down the shift key, click on the shapes you don’t want sketched and select NO CUT, which in this case, means NO SKETCH.  And make sure that the shape you do want to sketch is selected and set to CUT.  (It should be outlined in red.)  Then, make sure your sketch pen is loaded in the machine when you want to sketch (or your blade when you want to cut).  In terms of sketch settings, I recommend selecting “double-cut” to make it extra bold.  (It’s mesmerizing to watch it sketch, by the way.  Most entertainment I had had all day!)  You’ll repeat this process for each different color and then for the cut at the end.

Select double-cut to make your sketch pen art extra bold.

I used the the metallic silver for the lid, and the glitter blue for the jar.

Step 6.  After unloading my cutting mat and peeling away the excess cardstock, my design was complete!  I just love how the blue actually looks aqua, like the jars, and the glitter sketch pen actually glitters in the light.  (You can sort of see it in this picture if you click on it and zoom in.)

The glitter sketch pens actually "glitter" in the light.

I loaded it up in my frame, and voila!  An instant homage to my beloved aqua Ball mason jars.  I love how it adds to the beach vintage vibe we’ve got going on in our master bedroom…or at least the vibe we’re trying to start.  We have some big plans for our bedroom this fall; this wall art and our IKEA hacked wardrobe are just the tip of the iceberg!

This framed artwork will serve as a reminder of my quest to recollect those vintage aqua Ball mason jar treasures, one by one.  I feel some fall flea market runs coming on, how about you?

  1. This is soo pretty! I bet your beachy bedroom looks awesome now with this Mason Jar Art and the Ikea hack. Can’t wait to see it…if not in October, then sometime soon I hope! I’ll keep an eye out for you, too, for some antique aqua mason jars. We’ve got to boot away that seller’s remorse…

    1. Oh, and the IKEA hack and mason jar art are just the beginning of our beachy bedroom projects…we’re in the midst of one right now that I cannot WAIT to reveal. Gotta finish it first, though. Ha ha. And thanks for keeping a lookout for me! I have faith that collection will be re-collected once again…. #yougottahavefaith

    1. Meggie, what a dear you are for passing this pin along to me! (Of course, I had to re-pin it…broken link or not.) Thanks for thinking of me and my obsession with the aqua Ball mason jar! I would love to have a chandelier like that in my home someday….

  2. I would cry!! I love my blue vintage mason jars. I found a bunch at a yard sale for $5 a piece this spring, and I had to run home to get more money, hoping she wouldn’t sell them before I returned! They were her grandmothers. Your picture is a sweet way to show how much you care:) and thanks for helping to make week one of our Get Your DIY on Fall Party Challenge a success! I hope you can join us again this Sunday. Our theme is fall wreaths! 🙂

    1. Christy, you were a wise woman to snatch those gems up! Hold onto ‘me now. 🙂 And thanks for co-hosting the Get Your DIY on Fall Party Challenge. I have a wreath to share next round!

  3. You know I love this Lauren! And all the fabulous projects you do:) If you have a chance, I would love for you to link up at our new mega-party Work it Wednesday if you haven’t already. Each link will be shown on 4 blogs! Work it Wednesday Your awesome ideas would totally add so much to the party!

  4. I love the mason jar art you made. I have a soft spot for the vintage aqua jars, too. I have one in my curio that was given to me by my grandma. I don’t know how old it is, but I would guess several decades. It has a one piece threaded metal lid. Have you seen the new blue ones that came out this year? Not vintage, but blue. I’ve been tempted but haven’t bought any…yet!

    1. My Mom mentioned seeing them! I feel like a bit of a snob about finding just the vintage ones…but maybe once I see these new ones, I’ll be swayed! 😉

  5. LOVE your mason jar drawing. am planning to shamelessly copy it for my kitchen. I would have KILLER seller’s remorse for selling 20 of my vintage jars. As for having seller’s remorse, not so much, but I do regret loaning my sister a dress form and a food processor, as I never got them back, and she says she no longer has them. GRRR!

    1. Copy away! In fact, if you do, would you email me a pic? I’d love to feature it in my next Reader Showcase. And that’s a bummer-face about your dress form and food processor! Grrrr indeed!

  6. I have purchased some daily deals (mystery boxes) and afterwards thought – “what was I thinking” and when I received them I really thought “WHAT WAS I THINKING!”

    1. I’m not sure I know what daily deal mystery boxes are…but a part of me wants IN on them! They sound really fun! Then again, not if it means buyer’s remorse!

  7. I’ve been a Cricut user for years but am contemplating a switch to the Silhouette… dilemna!!

Seller’s remorse…. selling all our baby items!!

Thanks for the chance to win, it may be what I need to make me stop investing more & more in the Cricut. 🙂

    1. When I discovered my parents trying to sell my baby clothes at a garage sale, I ran inside for my allowance money, and bought them myself! Even at age 6, I couldn’t stand the thought of losing my precious baby clothes. (So, I can understand your remorse!)

And I’ve never played with a Cricut before…but I can imagine that if you enjoy it, you’d love to play with a Silhouette! Best of luck, Brandy.

  8. My husband decided that we didn’t need our “extra” crock pot anymore – in spite of me trying to convince him otherwise. I finally just let him do it, knowing he would quickly figure out that I was right – & I would get a new crock pot out of the whole deal. Lol Literally a few weeks after getting rid of it, we had an event where we needed the extra crock pot. Needless to say, I soon after got a new “extra” crock pot…& I tease him about it every time we use it!

    1. This is just further affirmation for me why I need to keep BOTH crock pots I own. Ha ha. Thanks, Jennifer! (And I’m glad you got your “extra” crock pot back.)

  9. I have seller’s remorse about my children’s clothing and accessories that I could have upcycled with the silhouette! Love the mason jar and sketch pens!!!

  10. I’ve been saving Amazon gift cards in hopes of buying a silhouette! They are so neat, especially for my classroom!

    1. I’m no longer teaching in the classroom, but I can just imagine the fun I would have had creating classroom decor and labels with a Silhouette. Hope those Amazon cards can be cashed in soon, Amy! And have a happy start to your school year.

  11. I want to win so bad….but that’s ok if I don’t…will bug my husband now until Christmas w/a pouty face until I DO GET ONE 🙂

    1. Ha ha. I’m sure your pouty face is hard to resist! And believe you me, Christmas will be here before we know it!

  12. I don’t have a seller’s remorse–but I did give away an over stuffed arm chair years ago I still wish I had kept…

  13. Love the space saving properties of a Cameo. I had to downsize, so I had to give away some bookcases. I can now see a zillion ways I could have incorporated them into my new home. But it gives me an excuse to go “hunting”.

  14. I had a sellers remorse about an audio recorder I used to own, I never give away any of my craft supplies!

Have you thought about tinting regular mason jars to get the look you want? I did a project that tinted ball jars the colors of the rainbow. I made mine really dark but you can tint them so they are light in color. The best part is it is just tinted and is still transparent, it isn’t like painting a jar.

    1. Ya know, Christina, a few others have mentioned the idea of DIYing my own aqua mason jars using that tinting method…and I think if I can’t hunt down some vintage jars at the flea markets this fall, I might give it a go! It could be a fun challenge to try to match the aqua of the antique jars. Thanks for the input!

  15. I did the exact same thing with probably 2 dozen mason jars that we found when cleaning out his grandma’s house with the intention of making all kinds of gifts.. we ended up moving and I gave, yes GAVE them away and I kick myself every day for that dumb idea!!

Anyway thanks for the chance to win!!!

    1. Savanna, in some strange way, it makes me feel a bit better knowing I’m not the only one who has let some precious mason jars slip through her fingers. Maybe we need to a form a Mason Jar Remorse Club!

  16. Not quite seller’s remorse, but I do have a threw-it-out remorse story… when I was in high school, I went to a lot of theatre performances. I kept every ticket stub and program in a big box. When I moved out, I left it at my parents’ house. When my parents sold their house, I had to get all the stuff I’d left there. Thinking it was a waste of space, I threw away all those ticket stubs and programs. This was 20 yrs ago and I still regret it. I really wish I’d kept those things and put them in a shadow box or under a layer of glass on a coffee table or something… 🙁

    1. Aack! As a theatre fanatic myself, my heart aches for you! Maybe it will give you a good excuse to get out there and see a lot of theatre now…so you can rebuild your collection and tackle that great idea of a shadow box or coffee table display….

  17. I love your stuff lol it’s all good. my sellers remorse was a tear drop sapphire pendant, loved it but going through a divorce with two little ones I needed the money. I pawned it and was going to get it back but didnt. that was 20 years ago

    1. What a heartbreaking story! I hope that pendant or one like it finds it way back to you…or perhaps a sense of peace about your decision to sell it. HUGS!

  18. Every time I get rid of something that I don’t feel I need, I find a use for it the next week. Or I see something cute someone did with the same thing on the internet. Lol!

  19. Thank you for the giveaway! Excited for the chance to win. I wish I would have saved my daughters Christmas PJ’s so I could have a blanket made with them. 🙂

    1. What a great upycling idea, Renee! And now I know never to throw out my “leg lamp” Christmas PJ pants. 😉

  20. I have a soft spot for vintage mason jars too. And the cobalt blue medicine bottles!:)

The sketch pens look like fun to try. I’m awfully tempted to buy some but I still need to play with the other products I’ve purchased!lol

    1. Ooooo. Good call with the cobalt blue medicine bottles! There’s just something about that blue glass that draws the eye. Cobalt and royal blue sea glass were always the most precious sea glass pieces that we would hunt for during our summers spent on the Jersey shore. Sadly, when they expanded the beaches, bringing in sand from the deep onto shore, we didn’t find as much sea glass after that….

  21. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Oh, the mason jars. Aren’t they fantastic…. like nothing else?!?! I’m getting married in May and have been pinning ideas for centerpieces with aqua Ball mason jars. A couple of months ago I was discussing my ideas with my mother and told her we needed to start trolling antique stores and flea markets looking for them. She said, “Baby, why would we do that?” Which honestly stunned me so I replied, “Mama, you don’t like them?” “I love them,” she said “In fact, I have two huge boxes full of them in the basement.” WHAT!!!! How did I not know this? She reminded me that they had been used for my sister’s wedding a couple of years prior. Then, of course, we had a little chat about the fact that although I was her maid-of-honor, I was a bit distracted for my sister’s wedding (hence having NO recollection what-so-ever of her centerpieces). In my defense, she go married on Cape Cod during Hurricane Irene and my fiance and I spent 4 days trying to back to Charlotte so I could start my new job. Craziness! Well, I hope your collection continues to grow. My sister and I have already laid claim on all of the mason jars after my wedding. Btw, thanks for the great giveaway!

    1. You’re a great storyteller, Leslie! I can practically see that conversation with your Mom playing out in my head right now. And congrats on your upcoming nuptials! (“Nuptials” is such a funny word, isn’t it? So formal! I always feel a bit like I’m playing pretend when I use it. Tee hee.) I’m sure those aqua Ball mason jars are going to rock your table centerpieces! And later, you and your sister’s mantels, kitchen tables, bookshelves…you name it! Best of luck with the giveaway. 😉

  22. I have more of buyer’s remorse than seller’s remorse – every craft supply that I buy and use just for one project – namely Gorilla glue, craft paints, modge podge, freezer paper etc…:-(

    1. Oh Benny, I can relate on that front! I have many glues and paints and ribbons and fabric that I used once and never again. I probably need to establish a rule. For every craft project I buy new supplies for, I need to create something with what I already have on hand!

  23. So pretty! Yet another reason to buy (or win) a Silhouette! I also love that you will have a fun reminder of your wedding every time you catch a glimpse of your new art. My only seller’s remorse came after selling all my maternity clothes (really cute ones!) when baby #2 was six months old, thinking I was finished. Just a few short months later I had the greatest surprise of needing said maternity clothes one more time. Oh well, it’s just stuff, right?

    1. You’re so right, Jessica! It is just stuff…and while I’m sure it was a headache for you to re-purchase maternity clothes and while I do miss my aqua Ball mason jars, you have the sweet gift of your son, and I have a day of fantastic memories of saying “I do” to my main squeeze. So, there is much to be thankful for! Thanks for helping to put it all in perspective.

      {And I gotcha covered on the duplicate comment front. Sometimes my blog likes to play tricks on people…including me!}

  24. Can’t think of anything seller remorse….more on the buyer remorse side 🙂
I do need to sell alot of my mother’s craft supplies that I will never use!!

    1. How fun that come from a family of crafters! But it’s true…too much of a good thing can be a burden. Hopefully you can make some sales on Craigslist or eBay!

  25. No seller’s remorse. I do regret letting my sister borrow anything. I never saw things again! Like my grandmother’s ring and an electric guitar.

  26. No sellers remorse of my own — I’m a saver (not always a good thing). But when my sister lived in our grandmother’s house after our grandmother died, she got rid of several pieces of MCM furniture that I would love to have now, but didn’t have my own space to save them for then…

    1. I know…I can be a saver, too, and it’s in part because I feel like everything comes back in style eventually. Like MCM furniture! I mean, I’m totally rocking 80s jewelry right now (so it’s no wonder I’m a hoarder).

  27. I love that people have giveaways, although i never win. 😉
I am totally new to this who arts and crafts stuff, just got into it a few months ago and I feel like I cant stop lol. I wanna do everything i see. Ive seen alot of crafts made with this silhouette machine and I love what it can do. I really wish I could afford one, but i have no job and cant seem to get an interview anywhere, IT SUCKS. Anyways that was TMI. Hopefully I win and good luck to everyone who is participating.

As for your mason jar issue…. i hate when you regret giving or selling something to someone else. I see why you regret selling them they are pretty! Ive been looking to buy a case or two of mason jar to try out some of the crafts I have seen on Pinterest. Does anyone know where I can find some for a cheap price??? I am sure I need a lot of practice before I become on expert like you guys.

    1. Ha ha. No worries, Tracy. Your TMI is welcomed here! So sorry that you’re struggling to find interviews; I had the same situation when I moved down to Orlando. Nobody was hiring theatre teachers, so I just showed up! I dropped my resume off at a million places…met a lot of secretaries and hardly any principals or program directors. Eventually, though, one studio showed interest! And eventually, that led to a part-time job! So, I’m not sure what field you’re in and whether or not the “showing up” method would work, but it might be worth a shot. I think resumes can get buried when they come by email, but when they have a face to connect to the resume–a real person–you have a shot at standing out. Anyway, that’s my unsolicited advice.

And I’m glad you’re getting into arts and crafts! It is addicting isn’t it? As for where to find mason jars inexpensively, I would check out eBay! That’s where I found my aqua Ball mason jars…and I’ve seen the plain clear ones at Hobby Lobby, too. With a 40% off coupon, you could get one for a few bucks. Have fun!

  28. So excited about another giveaway!!

Several years ago when I was in a purge mood, I sold some vintage linens. I regret it to this day.

    1. Yay! I’m excited you’re excited.

And if I ever get my hands on some vintage linens, I’ll be sure to never let them go. Hope you come across another set that outdoes the first that you sold!

  29. Technically it isn’t something I sold, but it is something I owned. My mom sold all of my old toys from when I was a kid in the 80s. Legos, Hot Wheels/matchbox cars, even my little kiddie car. Those things are worth a fortune now! And even if they weren’t, they would be awesome to share with my kids. Does it count if I have the remorse that she should have? 🙂

    1. Caroline, what a bummer! Yes, it totally counts, and I’d feel the same way if my Mom sold all of my childhood toys–the my little ponies and Precious Places and American Girl doll and Cabbage Patch doll. Now you have me itching to return to my parents’ attic in New York just to make sure they’re still there! Eek!

  30. I don’t recall ever having seller’s remorse – buyer’s remorse, definitely. Right now, I’m having remorse that I just didn’t buy a Silhouette. I want one sooooo much! Hubby keeps reminding me that my birthday is coming up, but who wants to wait – I’d rather win one now! 😉

  31. Oh you’re so right Lauren! Those are the perfect mason jars! Your print turned out awesome. I had know idea about the Sketch pens either. They sound super fun. Dreaming of a Silhouette to call my own. 😉 Great giveaway!
    Cheers my Florida friend

  32. I don’t recall having seller’s remorse but I’m sure I did at some point. I just can’t remember at the moment. Your jars are very pretty.

  33. Lately, as I was ordering all of my younger child’s textbooks for school, I would think, “Don’t we have that textbook already [from my older son]?” only to remember that I sold it the year before!

    1. Eeska! That’s the worst, when you know it was something you just had. I’ve been prone to the same with textbooks…I would sell those puppies as soon as the class was over, and then think of something I wish I could reference a few weeks later! Dope!

  34. I’m a packrat. Every time I sell something, I have seller’s remorse. In a desperate attempt to bring in some income after my son was born, I sold my collection of beloved Elephants. To this day (five years later) I cannot believe I sold them all! The one I miss the most was wooden covered in leather and stood up to my knee. A Silhouette Portrait would definitely ease my pain, since you were wondering 🙂

    1. Oh, Heather! My heart aches for you and your lost Elephant collection! Would you ever try to rebuild it or are you just trying to move on? The wooden and leather one sounds like a real gem. Here’s to hoping you come across it and one like it at a thrift store or flea market someday soon. (Or that you win the Portrait! Ha ha.)

  35. I have slight hoarding tendencies so it takes me a long while to sell things :/ so far no major selling regrets 🙂

  36. I sold all of my rubber stamps and ink pads on ebay for a ridiculously low price because I was “done with stamping”. Mega remorse!

  37. Seller’s remorse: We recently sold my sister my old car, and she had to take it to the shop 3 times before it died forever. Whoops! She’s such a good person, and she even bought my husband’s car after that because he needed a truck. I feel terrible, and when I win this, I’ll make her an “I’m sorry I sold you a piece of crap car” card. (I’ve decided “if I win” hasn’t been working, so maybe “when I win” will!

Thanks for hosting this giveaway. Again!

    1. Oh Jenny…that car story is so sad! And I can tell you just feel mega-remorse over it. I do hope you can make that “I’m sorry I sold you a piece of crap car” card after all! I’ll be drawing the giveaway winner’s name soon, so we’ll see if the “when I win” approach pans out! (Here’s to hoping.)

    1. I can think of a lot of hoarders (many of them who are in this comment thread) who would love to have a visit from organizing Michelle one day! 🙂

  38. When moving across country we sold A LOT of our furniture that we are still replacing many years later. We’ll definitely make a difference choice next time.
And I’d love to win a Silhouette!

  39. I don’t suffer from seller’s remorse, but I do suffer from non-buyer’s remorse! I hate passing up a good deal!
I adore the mason jar picture! I love all the things you can do with the Silhouette!

    1. Yessss! Teresa, I can relate to non-buyer’s remorse, too. I’ve kicked myself many a time for not grabbing things I saw at garage sales or thrift stores. And thanks for the kind words! Hope you get a Silhouette to play with someday soon.

    1. Thanks, Kelly! I had an awesome florist friend from our church who worked her magic on those wedding centerpieces. All I did was painstakingly collect the aqua Ball mason jars for her to work with. And then…I sold them. (Slaps hand to head.)

  40. I have remorse of giving something away! I gave away a large bowl that was stainless steel because it didn’t have a large enough base. Well, after giving it away, I realized it would have been perfect for a lamp shade over our dining table. Sad Day!

    1. Oh, wow! Way to think out of the box with that potential upcycle. Although you didn’t get to enact it in reality, I give you major props for that creative thinking, Jessica!

  41. I never end up selling anything but giving it away at Goodwill or something else like that. So I don’t have sellers remorse but GIve-A-Wayers Remorse!

  42. I Love Mason jars! And your idea is amazing! I would love to have the silhouette to give this a try!

I don’t think I’ve had seller’s remorse, not yet anyway. I tend to keep everything and seriously overthink before giving away or selling anything.

The only thing I did sell that I regreted was a book in college that I later could have used for reference. But I got over that one really quickly. lol

    1. Good for you for giving things a good hard think before selling them! That’s what I should have done with this whole mason jar debacle. Ha ha. And thanks for the enthusiastic response to my mason jar art! Hope you can try your hand at some Silhouette sketch pens soon, Nimrah!

  43. I LOVE your mason jar art, Lauren! So lovely!

Seller’s remorse happens, it’s okay. And honestly – 20 vintage mason jars IS a lot.

I don’t know that I’ve had seller’s remorse before, only because I’m a bit of a hoarder and every time something leaves my house, I pat myself on the back for actually getting rid of something.

Now you have the thrill of the chase again!

    1. Tara, you are so right, my friend. 20 mason jars is a whole stinking lot. I probably didn’t need them all. But maybe 10? or 12? I mean, think of the aqua Ball mason jar lanterns I could have had hanging on our back deck, Tara?! Okay, I need to let it go. I know. And you’re right, I really should be celebrating the fact that I did lighten our load a bit by getting rid of them. I can be a hoarder, too…especially in the craft supply arena. Eeska.

Ha ha, and it’s true! The thrill of the chase has swept me off my feet! It’ll be an adventure to track them down, one by one, all over again. 😉

  44. I only have buyer’s remorse. I’m pregnant and every time I think I have the lattes and ice cream under control, a sale or free treat comes along…

    1. Oh, girl…I’ve never been pregnant, but I love lattes and ice cream like it’s my job…so I can totally understand how hard it would be to resist a sale or freebie! The force is strong with lattes and ice cream!

  45. I love your jars. We have a couple of “junk” stores here. I love them, but live in a VERY small home and don’t have room to save them. I can check the next time I’m in there!

    1. Aw, Tanya. How sweet are you?! Any excuse for a road trip to OK to pick up some mason jars and see a sweet friend sounds good in my book! 😉

  46. As difficult as it was, I gave away a book a few years ago and recently someone needed to borrow it. Remorse! This is not helping me with purging!
Great tutorial! I love how you’re framing a lovely blue ball jar…perhaps that will suffice and you won’t need to collect? But I will keep my eyes open for you. I saw some new blue ball jars recently in a supermarket. Are you just looking for the antique ones? Any tips for telling the difference?
Always love seeing your photos of the wedding and from your projects–very well done!
Best wishes to all who sign up for the give-away!!

    1. I know…we really should be thankful to be purging these things, not struggling with remorse! It’s true, it just helps us get creative with less bulky ways to remember the things we love (like through framed art). I always loved your idea of taking a photo of something before throwing or giving it away. Such a wonderful solution for those school projects! And I recently heard about the new blue Ball mason jars…but I think I’m going to hold out for the aqua antique ones. I haven’t seen the new ones in person, but I wonder if you can tell a difference in the color?

      1. Yes, I think the antique ones may be more turquoise and the new ones more blue. I’ll keep looking out for you at flea markets, etc. We have one of those in OG on Sept. 7th. Thanks for being such a good role model for me of being able to balance the need to de-clutter with a healthy dose of love for old, beautiful things!

        1. Didn’t see any antique blue ball jars at the Flea Market but we didn’t have time to go down every aisle. I’ll keep looking for ya! 🙂

  47. I have a sad story about jars! When my wonderful Grandmother passed away, some family members did not speak to each other after the funreal for years, all over a couple of cases of jars! And chocolate pudding! I told my boys if they fight over stupid things I will haunt them forever!!!! And I will!!
But everyone needs some of these adorable things! I will keep an eye out for you! If I find some I will send them to you!!

    Thanks! LeAnn

    1. LeAnn, you’re a sweetheart for being on the lookout for me. Seriously, I have the most amazing readers EVER. And that really is heartbreaking to hear about those family members who stopped talking over some jars and chocolate pudding! Sheesh! Good for you for teaching your kids about what matters most…and it’s most definitely not jars and chocolate pudding. Those boys are blessed to have a Mom like you. 😉

Ha ha. And I haven’t yet drawn the winner’s name yet, but I’m hoping that one of these times, your name will pop up so I can send you that congratulatory email and finally get that address!

  48. Oh my, I love me some mason jars. I have a grand total of one of the amazing antique blue ones but I always keep an eye open for them. I also have six of the new ones (I use them in my craft cabinet with buttons, thread, clothespins…they really are a must). That’s such a good deal for the sketch pens. I have been tempted to buy the starter kit and give them a try. Your adorable mason jar print may be the push I needed to get myself a little present. I mean, why pass up a good deal, right? 😉

    1. Another aqua Ball mason jar fanatic! Harrah! And yes, you put it well: they really are a must. 😉 I really have loved playing around with the sketch pens and already have a few other prints I’d love to try to create, but this time for hospitality gifts. Sigh. So many crafty ideas…not enough time!

  49. I love Blue Mason Jars!!!! I have remorse too from a garage sale where I only bought 4 of them for a QUARTER EACH and actually left some behind. What was I thinking?!?!? I thought 4 would be plenty, but I was so so wrong. I love this giveaway! Thanks so much!

    1. Nooooo! A quarter each?! That’s unheard of?! But I’ll stop. I don’t want you to have any more remorse than you already have. And hopefully, you’ll come across some more steals like that in your garage-saleing endeavors. Thanks for stopping by, Heather, and for entering the giveaway! Cheers to you, friend.

  50. I don’t think I get sellers remorse but I do get remorseful about things I passed up on when thrift shopping! I love the mason jar print you made—so creative!

    1. Thanks so much, Jennifer. And I feel ya on the things-I-passed-up-while-thrift-shopping remorse. That one runs deep, too. Sigh. 😉

  51. You know, I saw those sketch pens that came with my machine and I had NO clue what to do with them and I never bothered to look into it. But now that I know, boy, oh, boy do I have some stuff to start getting into!

Nice tutorial and so sorry about your Mason jars. I am a constant purger just because my house has very limited storage space. I’ll be digging around for a mirror I thought I stored in the hot, hot garage and then vaguely remember (after hours of looking) that I sold it in a garage sale on a whim. Ack! Good luck rebuilding your collection!

    1. Ha ha. I’m glad you have a renewed sense of excitement over the sketch pens. You and your uber-creative self are going to work wonders with them, I know it!

And it’s probably a good thing to be a constant purger…besides the occasional fruitless-mirror-searches, I think it’s probably a gift not to feel tethered by “things.”

  52. I think the only thing left for the Silhouette to be able to do is clean my house! Wouldn’t that be wonderful!

I love your wedding tables…so very pretty!

    1. Ha ha! Well said, Kristine. Well said. (Yes, I think if a Silhouette could clean the house, it really could do everything.)

And thanks for the kind words about our wedding tables! It’s fun to enjoy them again and re-live that day through photos.

  53. I’ve definitely had seller’s remorse! When we sold my townhouse, we sold my bike. I’ve sense wanted to do another sprint triathlon but now I don’t want to fork out the money to buy a new bike. We sold it thinking there would be no room for it at the new house we purchased, but of course now we have two storage units! Oh well!

    1. Sad-face! Hoping you can find another racing bike for a steal of a price to replace the old one! (That’s the worst when you think you won’t need it or have room for it and both end up being falsities!)

  54. Oh No you are NOT the only one who’s had remorse and as a result my excuse now is “I might need this for later.” And that’s not a good thing because now I get really stupid about what to keep and what to throw out. When I get in the mood to sort it all out, and throw away things, it is usually the next week that I am looking for the thing I threw away. You know, Murphy’s Law takes over. My only consolation is that I try to keep it all organized so I won’t think it’s that bad! LOL

With the Sketch Pen bundle and pen holder included, you are saving $10. Do you know if I can use my $10 Silhouette gift card to purchase these or not? Woo Hoo if I can!!

    1. Karen, I’m SO with you on the plan to keep it all organized as a way to deal with my hoarder tendencies…ha ha! (I had never really identified it as such, though, until now. You’ve really given me so many insights!)

Hmmm….and I have no idea if you can use a gift card to purchase the sketch pens, but it would be worth a try! If it didn’t work out, you wouldn’t be bound to buy it, right? Here’s to hoping it does work, though. And I’ll whoo hoo with you!

  55. A whole bedroom set, that if we would have held onto for a few years would have been a perfect makeover project for my daughter’s room

    1. Yeah–I don’t have the pen holder myself…so you’ll have to tell me how it works out, Kelly!

    1. Aw, thanks, Emily! And I think you’ll really enjoy the sketch pens. They’re addicting…like most things Silhouette!

  56. I have buyer’s remorse – I paid over $5 for a gigantic roll of freezer paper for a little project that I have in mind. I guess I’ll use the freezer paper for its original purpose – wrapping meat for freezing.

    1. I have a gigantic roll of freezer paper, too, that I’ve had for months and only recently busted into! I did really enjoy working with it, though, so hopefully I can create enough freezer paper stencils to make it worthwhile…or as you said, wrap and freeze meat! 😉

  57. I have “wish I’d bought remorse” for a cameo silhouette…last summer at a rummage sale. I thought it looked interesting, but had no real idea how cool it was and what it could do. Hoping to have my own soon to use to for home and classroom ideas.

    1. A Cameo at a rummage sale?! Wow! I can understand your remorse, Lisa. Hoping you win a giveaway soon to make up for it!

  58. Have you used any of the other glitter pens? I tried using the green one last night, but it was really inconsistent and didn’t always leave ink behind. I might try again with the “double-cut” option to see if that makes a difference. I also used the black pen, and that didn’t seem to have any issues.

    1. Yes! I used the blue glitter pen in this very project and didn’t have any problems with consistency; but I think the double-cut is key. Glad to hear you’re already diving into projects, Kristy!

  59. Mark my words I need to channel the force. I have to win one of these before Christmas crafting season begins or I am going to die. Ok too mellowdramatic. But love your mason’s jars! Make your own girl! Get plain mason jars and food colouring and some glue and your oven and voila – blue mason jars. Pinterest it. There are thousands of tutorials now!

    1. You know how much I want you to win one, Alex! Ahhhhh, I can just the creative Christmas paper-crafts now…. And ya know, I’ve seen those tutorials on how to make your own aqua mason jars. The colors just never seem quite as rich, but maybe it’s worth a go! Basically, I need to quit my whining and DO something about it. Ha ha.

    1. Oh no! Hope you come across an amazing deal on another one at a thrift store, or even better, on the side of the road!

    1. Woot woot! Thank you, Kelly! They’re a heap of fun; I can’t wait to see what you and your creative self whip up with them.

  60. A seller’s remorse doesn’t come to mind… but I’ve definitely had buyer’s remorse, or I should clarify, not buying remorse!

    1. The Cameo still rocks my socks off, all these months later. Oh yes, the sketch pens are my new favorite medium. Then again, I feel like I say that with everything new that I try with my Silhouette! Ha ha.

    1. Thank you, Hanna! There really is no end to all that you can do with a Silhouette; hope you get your hands on one soon! (And by the by, I love the color palette of your blog design. So soothing!)

  61. Yay for giveaways! Hopefully one day all your followers will have a Silhouette!

Can’t think of seller’s remorse story at the moment, but I’m sure there have been some – I’ve just probably put them out of my mind!

    1. Ha ha. That’s the plan, Paula! 😉 Gotta make sure everyone gets one sooner or later…especially you, lady!
