My New MOO Business Cards & Giveaway for 3!

One of my goals for 2013 was to attend a blog conference, and that dream will become a reality tomorrow (eek!) when I’ll be rubbing shoulders with Ana White, Sherry Petersik, and Beckie Farrant at Haven blog conference.  Actually, what’s more likely is that I’ll be so starstruck, I’ll trip and fall into their shoulders.  So, I need to have something to hand out during the awkward silence after that moment.  What better than a snazzy blogger business card?!

I had heard great things about MOO business cards from friends in our small group, so I thought I’d give them a whirl.  Boy, they did not disappoint!  I’m really excited to share them with you today (and if you stick with me, there just may be a really exciting giveaway at the end of this post!).

My New Biz Cards!

Now, let me start by saying that I still haven’t upgraded to fancy design software, so I wasn’t sure if I would be able to pull off creating my designs in PicMonkey.  But MOO’s interface makes it really easy for you (click here to explore their business card options).  You can even download a card template and build your design on top of that to ensure size compatibility.

You’ll notice I added a QR code to the front of my card.  You’ve probably seen these codes all over kingdom come, but like me, you may not be too familiar with how they work.  There are free apps for smart phones like  q·.:Launcher where you can scan a QR code, and within a few seconds, a browser will pop up and take you to the web page linked to that code.  It’s almost instantaneous and eliminates the extra step of having to get to a computer to type in a web address.  That may not seem like a huge time-saver, but at a blog conference where people will have more smart devices on hand than computers, it’s a smart move.

I used QRStuff.com to create a QR code for free in my color of choice, saved it as a jpg, and incorporated it into my design in PicMonkey.  I tested it out, folks, and it does indeed work!  In fact, it works so fast, it was really hard for me to capture a photo of the app in action.

How and why to add a QR code to business cards! | The Thinking Closet

One other thing I did was switched up my Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram handles so now they all match my Twitter handle of @ThinkingCloset.  I had to go back through old blog posts to fix some broken links, but it was well worth it to have them all matching now.  It both simplifies my biz card and saves space!

In terms of printing and card quality, I have to say MOO did stellar work.  Colors are as they look on the screen, and the cards themselves are a heavier weight than typical biz cards.  They have a smooth matte finish to them that just feels good in your hands.  And I paid a little extra for rounded corners because I dig the look.

Okay, so I think my favorite thing about my new MOO business cards are the backs of the cards.  MOO has this unique printing option called Printfinity, which means you can upload an unlimited number of designs for the backs of your cards.  Did you catch that?  Unlimited!  And you don’t have to pay extra for it either; it’s just what they do.  Here’s a little video from MOO explaining how it works:

So, it was all I could do to stop at 7 different designs. Here are some close-ups of them.

Whad’ya think?

Blogger Business Cards using MOO and PicMonkey! by The Thinking Closet

I’d love to know what y’all think about these designs, so I put together a two question survey to get some feedback from you lovelies.  Your two cents is worth a whole more to me than two cents, I’ll tell ya that.  I’ll share the survey results next week!

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world’s leading questionnaire tool.

MOO’s shipping was super speedy, too!  I opted for standard shipping, which is estimated at 9 business days, but they arrived in 5 business days.  And as someone who appreciate the details, I also loved that their presentation in packaging was top-notch.  From the moment I saw the padded envelope on our front step, I knew something yay-worthy was inside.

I ordered 400 cards, which might seem like a lot to some, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t run out between Haven and Florida BlogCon in September.  Look at my 400 cards, all neatly bundled in the box:

Also, I didn’t expect this, but my package came with two different business card holders, complete with MINE and THEIRS tabs so you can stay organized.  If I have time before I leave tomorrow, I may even try covering them with scrapbook paper and Mod Podge to personalize them a bit!

    1. Ally! I’m delighted to hear you’re a MOO fan, too, now and that my review may have been a help to you! One of my Christmas gifts to my hubby is to design and order him some MOO cards. He’s so excited to join the MOO fan club! Lol. Have a fantastic 2014, and I hope we can keep in touch.

  1. I thought business cards were boring and a necessary evil in business…UNTIL NOW! Your cards are absolutely awesome. so creative and memorable! I’m sure they were a hit at the conference and made you really stand out. Thank you for the inspiration!

    1. Yay! Your comment makes me ecstatic, Christina! So glad to hear that my cards have been an inspiration for you. I totally LOVED handing them out at the conference (I even had some special requests for certain ones from folk who had seen this post!), and I still have extras that I carry around with me for those moments when my blog comes up in conversation. I can’t wait to design new ones for next summer!

Oh, and if you do design some cards, I’d love for you to send me a pic so I can feature you in my next Reader Showcase!

  2. Oh my gosh, I’m so obsessed with Moo business cards. They popped up on my facebook feed out of nowhere and I can’t get them out of my mind now. I’m rehauling my website design, but once I commit to a logo, I’m totally getting cards through them. Your cards just added to my obsession ;o)

  3. I’m similar to Mama in that it’s hard for me to give ’em away! They’re so pretty. But I know I’ll be seeing and meeting new people at school and I probably won’t be able to stop talking bout you and thethinkingcloset, so I’ll have plenty of chances to give ’em away…as long as I can get more later! 😀 My faves, by the by, are the checklist and the photo ones!

    1. Aw, you’re too sweet! Yes, I’ll gladly replenish your supply when it runs out. And those are my faves, too!

  4. I love this. I want to get business cards done once I’ve narrowed down my blog more.
I also read your post about the conference. That must have been cool. I’m so jealous. 😀
It’d be nice if the Maine bloggers could do a get together. *ponder*
Anyways, thanks for sharing as always. I’ve been a bit out of the loop having my computer fixed. 🙂 Works spiffy now. Going to try doing a new cut on my portrait when I get back from camping.
    ~happy bloggin~
    T~

    1. You should SO plan a get-together! Have you corresponded with other Maine bloggers? If not, you should consider starting a FB group! It’s a great way to connect.

  5. I’m such a sucker for snappy business cards!! I love the way you designed yours; they’re super cute girl!! (<–that was almost a comma splice). I don't have business cards for my blog but I'm thinking it might be a good investment!

    1. Love that you avoided a comma splice and acknowledged it. Also, YES to investing in business cards. I loved being able to give one to the gal who did my manicure after we had spent half an hour talking about it. Plus, that will just ensure that you’re ready for Haven 2014!

  6. When I made my Moo Cards, I used oil pastels to roughly sketch out swatches of 50 different colors. I scanned the oil pastels into my computer, superimposed my minimal logo, put my info on the reverse side, and now can give each person the choice of a different-colored business card. It’s quite fun.

    1. Wow, Jess! That sounds absolutely incredible. I might have to try the scan method next time I do some designs…especially since I have the watercolor thing going on with my blog design. Thanks for the inspiration!

  7. Your cards looks amazing, Lauren! I love the checklist idea, very creative and personal. It’s such a great way to remember someone. Can’t wait to hear about the blogger conference! 🙂

  8. I’ve been eyeing Moo cards ever since January. This would be so cool to win. Okay, ideas. On the back, a food collage (full bleed), my blog header with 5 different color schemes (matchy matchy), or…oh gosh…the GYCO logo.

Loved your card ideas. The checklist is really fun. That would be a great back for me too. 🙂

  9. Your business cards are FANTABULOUS! I wish I was there at Haven just so I could grab one. BTW – I am totally jealous. You are going to meet so many awesome people! Plus… you are one of those awesome people! Wishing you a great time at Haven! Hugs!

  10. Thank you for the chance to enter in your give away! I would love to try MOO business cards. I was finally brave enough to give Vista a try last month! It would be great to try other options too!
    Shelly Jack

  11. I looked at MOO once, but didn’t try them. Now I’m wishing I did. Thanks for the review! Now that I’m officially a PhD candidate (for longer than I should admit), I think it’s time to get me some of these for conferences.

  12. Love your new cards, Lauren! They suit you perfectly. I hope you are having a wonderful time at the conference, making new friends, getting inspired and maybe even enjoying some chai. Can’t wait to hear all about it!

  13. It was so great to meet you tonight and get one of these fabulous cards in person! I LOVE the unlimited background options – seriously love. And next time, I’ll be using MOO … with your referral link for sure! See you in the morning!

    xo, Laura

    1. Aw, Laura, the feeling is so mutual! Loved chatting face to face and swapping cards. (In fact, my post tomorrow may have a picture of us in it!) Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and soaking up some wisdom from the bloggers and brands we love. Sweet dreams!

  14. I love your cards!!! I think I would have to do multiple designs on the back. Maybe the logo for more business type functions and fun sayings and pics for more casual meetings. 🙂

  15. I think the checklist is a great idea! I love the way you can connect with others by having them think why they want to be a part of your creative projects 🙂

  16. Aaaah, I love seeing these up close! Your Instagram of them was fantastic, but I love the detail – and love that you did them using PicMonkey! So cool. 🙂 Hoping for a chance to win some of my own!

  17. OH I wish I was going to the conference. Since I am a newbie to this blogging world I had no idea but I am getting on the train and going to the next one!
Love the cards and the info!
Have a great time and share lots on Instagram so I can feel like I am there with you lol
    Hugs,
    Sandra

  18. I took the survey and enjoyed your blog but while I was navigating around I found I can connect to you with bloglovin. This is good because I am trying to get a bit more organised. HAHAHAHA!!!! I love your “creativity is messy” line. OhOh I just had a good idea gotta go! Gosh us creative people are lucky! My brain is always having fun and happy ideas it wants to try out! Hard to remember to be sad when necessary really. 🙂

    1. Oh yes, bloglovin’ is an excellent resource for keeping track of the blogs you want to follow. Honored to have you following me there! And also, I love that you had a good idea pop into your brain while writing your comment. Hope you wrote it down or tried it out before it fluttered off (that’s always my trouble with ideas…they sometimes pop out of my brain as quickly as they popped into it…ha ha).

  19. These are great and thanks for sharing a few with me to give-away, but they are so cute I don’t want to give any away!! For the backs, I like the checklist and full photo collage as well as the creativity is messy quote! Have so much fun at the blog conference. Will you be tweeting about it?
    xxoo

    1. Ha ha! Give them away freely, Mama. I will give you a whole new set of 7 when I see you in October, or before then via snail mail. 😉 And yes, you can bet I’ll be tweeting and instagramming up a storm from Haven (as long as my cell phone battery lasts, I suppose). Maybe I’ll see you on Twitter then? Thanks for the well wishes; now back to packing!

  20. LOVE the cards! I am nominating the Photo strip but that’s just b/c I think it would tell me a lot about the blogger and their style and tastes and that would make me go Oh hey, I love that we’d totally get along. How we remain friends despite your love of theatre is a mystery only the internet can understand *whispers* I don’t like musical theatre *runs*….
But I do love the night!~

    1. Ha ha. I think I can forgive you of your disdain for musical theatre…I know it’s not for everyone, but I’ll just tell you that my husband, who really didn’t care much for musical theatre when we got married is now a HUGE fan of Wicked, Godspell, Rent, Next to Normal to name a few. It cracks me up that he knows the lyrics to the songs better than I do now! 😉 #watchoutimightconvertyoutoo

  21. Your cards are amazing!!! I also used MOO, and took advantage of the Printfinity feature (can you say three different variations on a purple couch!?). I love your checklist idea, your quotes/about you, state love, and the extra space to jot down notes. So thoughtful, so clever 🙂
I CANNOT WAIT TO MEET YOU!!!! (sorry if that came across in the aggressively creepy way that ALL CAPS can sometimes mean… i’m just really excited!).

    1. Just oooo’d and ahhhhh’d at your cards again tonight on your blog. Like I said, I can’t wait to trade cards at Haven…gulp…today! What am I doing on the computer at this hour? I still have a suitcase to finish packing. #storyofmylife #procrastinator

P.S. Ha ha, and you don’t have to worry about coming across as aggressively creepy. I totally interpreted your caps as insane enthusiasm, which is exactly how I feel about meeting you, Emily. AHHHHHHH! (We might need to face-time Thalita when we’re together. I feel like the three of us would be grand friends I.R.L.)

  22. I would print a peacock on the back cause its kinda my logo and I love the actual birds and the colors! also- these are really the best cards I have seen out there! I love the corners and also how they turned out in general- I would connect with you based on those cards alone! ha ha

    1. Woah! That’s high praise. You are too generous, my friend, but I’ll take it nonetheless and give you my thanks! And I’m glad to know my cards invite a connection! That’s exactly what I was going for so #missionaccomplished. 😉 Wish I could “connect” with you at Haven, Kelly. Maybe next year?

  23. Oh how I love MOO!
I have some of their samples at home and every few weeks I’m sitting here, thinking I NEED some of their cards! I adore the option to have different backgrounds, makes business cards much less feel like office-stuff… And I absolutely love their Luxe Cards (probably most because I’m a paper-fanatic, I could paw paper for hours!)

Yours are looking great, especially the checklist is just an awesome idea!

    Love, Midsommarflicka

    1. I haven’t seen or felt the Luxe cards myself…can you describe what they’re like? Might have to try that for my next batch. Love that you’re a MOO fanatic, Midsommarflicka. That only increases my respect and admiration for you all the more! Ha ha. Would love to see some biz cards that you’d design…they’d be out-of-this-world amazing, I just know it.

      1. So sorry for the late response! I’m at my parents and there’s not time for me and my blog-buddies, always something to do or see…..!

The Luxe Cards don’t have that smooth top, they feel more like paper (?!), but what I love so much about them is that they are actually three layers of cardboard and the middle one has a different color than the both white outsides. That’s something I haven’t found at any other printing company and it’s really unique if you have those cards!

Oh, and if I finally have the time to update my portfolio-homepage I could show some of the things I designed…………… 😉

        1. Interesting…and actually, now that you mention the three layers, I HAVE seen the Luxe Cards in action before. Someone in our church small group has those. They’re sweet! Thanks for taking the time to respond even when at your parents’ house. Hope it was a fun visit!

  24. The cards look great! I love Moo and ordered cards from them a while back when they were having a giveaway for 50 free Facebook business cards. I was also impressed with the quality and packaging. I’ll definitely have to revisit them when I’m ready make a new set for my blog! Have fun at the conference!

    1. Thanks, Megan! And I’m glad to hear that your experience with MOO was as positive as mine has been. And thanks for your well wishes. Hope to one day bump into you at a blog conference so we can trade our MOO biz cards. Ha ha.

  25. These are gorgeous!!! Gahhh! Makes me want to order business cards so badly but as I just changed blogs and feel like I’m starting from scratch, I don’t think my new blog is at a point of needing business cards just yet… Sort of an all dressed up with no place to go feeling. Always awesome to stumble across other central Florida bloggers! 🙂
    *Krystina

    1. Congrats on the new bloggy blog! Just hopped over and love your conversational writing and enthusiastic smile and great style (I SO want to try Stitch Fix now). Are you going to Florida BlogCon by any chance? If so, I’d love to meet there! If not, it’s in Winter Park and is pretty reasonable as far as conference tickets go. You should totally look into it to see if they still have tickets available. (I’ve never been, but got enticed to go by several other Central Florida d.i.y. bloggers.) Anyway, blog conferences aside, I know your blog will find its groove soon. I started blogging in September, and it wasn’t really until this spring that felt like I started to find my stride. Hang in there, girl. Great to “meet” you!

  26. Unlimited designs on the back side?!! That could’ve soaked up HOURS of my time coming up with bazillions of designs. I love the ones you made! The “let’s connect” one is my fave. But how will you decide who gets what card?!

  27. Wow! These look great Lauren! You did a great job on them! Have fun at Haven!!! I know you will have a blast. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Tori! If Haven is as awesome as I anticipate it to be, you KNOW I’ll be dropping major hints for you to come next year. More time with Tori is ALWAYS a good thing. 😉

  28. so happy and excited for you Lauren, you get to go to HAVEN! 🙂 YAY! you will be great there and I’m sure you will have fun!!! 🙂 Love the cards, all of them but my favourite is the one with the photo collage (one full bleed); very pretty! & YAY! for the giveaway too, I’m very happy about it as well!

    1. Thanks for the encouraging words, Ingrid! I’m really excited about it…so excited that I’m telling people how I excited I am rather than packing (which is what I should be doing right now—tee hee). Glad to have a giveaway for you to enter, Ingrid. I’ll take all the opportunities I can get to send freebies to my friends in Canada. Are there any blog conferences in Canada you’re hoping to attend? You’re such a great networker, I can just see you thriving at a conference.

  29. OMG THESE ARE AMAZING!!!!! Ahhhh I can hardly contain myself! I have to say that I prefer the ones with writing instead of the photos on the back, but that’s just my personal thingy. They all look amaaaazing, though, and I love the idea of a QR code!
I would probably also put a quote on the back, or maybe just my logo in a very simple design..hmm you’re right, the possibilites are endless! Fingers crossed, although I never do well in giveaways *sad face*
Hope the convention is a blast!!

    1. THANKS, GIRL! I feel the love in a major way, and that makes me giddy with glee. 😉 And never say never about the giveaways! I was the same way, and then I won an epically huge giveaway at Lil Blue Boo that sort of rocked my world for several months…the prizes kept rolling in, it was crazy. One day, that’ll be you! I know it!

    1. Thanks, Amy! And hooray for being BFFs! (Even though I heart cats and you don’t…ha ha.) Maybe I could convert you like I’ve started to convert my hubby. He loves the stray kitty we feed even more than I do, and he is deathly allergic to cats, so that’s sayin’ something. 😉

    1. Bummer! Hopefully we can meet someday, Meredith! I have a hunch that we’d get along swimmingly.

  30. I love this post Lauren! I have been thinking about getting business cards recently and have heard wonderful things about MOO! I lovelove the backs you created for your cards – so creative, crafty, and cute, just like you! I am going to enter the giveaway but if I don’t win you can bet I’ll be using your referral link when I get my little butt in gear to create some new cards. Thanks for this great review, it definitely made me feel more confident to go with them! 🙂

    1. I’m delighted to hear that this post was so timely for you, Melyssa, and that you’re eager to try out MOO! They really are top notch. Even my husband said within a moment of opening the box, “Wow. They’ve got it dialed!” (That’s one of his favorite lines, which essentially means, “They know what’s up.” Ha ha.) Oh girl, with your design skillz, I can only imagine the wonders you’d work up on some Nectar Collective biz cards…especially considering the wonders of Printfinity. Watch out, world! (P.S. If and when you do get business cards, can we trade cards via snail mail? That would make my heart happy.)

  31. Ok, those are seriously great. Your designs are too cute! And I would definitely check let’s chat about our love of musical theatre – before becoming a stay at home mama I was a HS choir director and have music directed lots of shows! I LOVE musicals! So fun to find out what we have in common 🙂 Have an AWESOME time at the conference! I bet you’ll use all of those business cards 😉

    1. WHAT?! How did I not know this about you, Meredith? Okay, we are definitely kindred spirits and I have a feeling we could gab over coffee for hours. Let’s make it happen!

  32. I love their cards, too! I ordered a sample pack, but need to update my info since getting married and moving. I am a music teacher, so i would put something musical on the back. Thanks!

  33. I Love the idea of having a photo strip on the back with room for notes. I would definitely make a strip of photos with some food photos. If they have something with recycled paper- even better! (Love your cards, they’re adorable!)

  34. I like the idea of putting quotes on the back of the card! Great idea. I also like the idea of using the cards as mommy cards. Decisions, decisions. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

  35. Lauren- I must say, I’m super impressed at how far you’ve come with your blog!! It has definitely inspired me to take my blog to the next step! Now, just to find the time… Have fun at your first conference!! I won’t be making it to FLBlog Con this year, I’m doing a charity bike ride in Clearwater that day:( Maybe another conference, and sometime soon!!

    1. Aw, thanks, Steph! Popped by 321 Delish recently and saw that you’ve been to Alaska in back?! Crazy cool. Can’t wait to catch up on my reading and hear all about it. Bummed that we won’t get to meet up at FLBlogCon, but we’ll just have to plan a different get-together. Tampa really isn’t that far from Orlando, so when you’re in my neck of the woods or when I’m in yours, let’s do lunch! Hugs to you, friend.

  36. I want to use this for my blog so maybe a similar list as your for the lets connect, but just list things I blog about since I am not only a cooking or baking or sewing or crafting or decor blog, etc.
