10 Songs to Inspire a Happy Dance & Silhouette Winner

Silhouette Portrait Giveaway at The Thinking Closet - May 8 - 12

Wow, folks.  We topped 557 entries with this Silhouette Portrait Giveaway, which I consider a raging success.  It delights me to know that so many people got to join in on the giveaway goodness.

My favorite part, though, had to be reading your comments and learning what you would choose to have playing in the background of your happy dance if you won a Silhouette.  I’ve had my head bopping to your song suggestions all weekend, in fact.

But foist things foist…. (Did you hear my New York accent there?  It slips out every once in a while.)

It’s time to announce the giveaway winner.  Can I get a drumroll please?  The winner of a brand new Silhouette Portrait craft-cutter chosen by Rafflecopter and powered by Random.org is…

Silhouette Giveaway Winner via The Thinking Closet

Congratulations, Tracie!  I cannot wait to see what you create with your new Portrait.  And if you take a photo or video of yourself doing a happy dance with your new Portrait in tow and send it to me, I will love you forever.  {Fine print: I have emailed you for your shipping information; please respond within 48 hours or I will have to choose another winner.}

Now, just because Tracie has a Silhouette Portrait to inspire her happy dance, that doesn’t mean that we all can’t get our happy on, too!  In fact, I don’t know about you, but when I’m needing a mood lift, a good dance session never fails to invoke the happy.  So, I’ve collected from your comments 10 different songs to inspire a happy dance.  What better way to get your Monday off on the right dance foot?  So, here we go!

And for your listening pleasure, I created a YouTube playlist with these songs, so you can click play one time and have it cycle through all 10 songs.  Great background music for hopping around the inter-web if I do say so myself!  Clicking play on the video below will start the playlist or click here to open the playlist on YouTube in a new tab.

May Silhouette Promotion & Giveaway at The Thinking Closet

And in case you missed it last week, I shared my first chipboard project, a DIY Birthday & Anniversary Calendar and learned from your comments that I’m not the only one who needs a little a lotta help remembering special dates.  #gladtoknowimnotalone

I’ll be back later today with my May Silhouette Challenge post involving labels…and frosted vinyl…and sugar & flour jars.  How’s that for a not-so-subtle hint?

    1. Cyndi Lauper knew what was up. 😉 I’m so glad you enjoyed the mix, Candice. Hope this week is a fun-filled one for ya!

    1. Thanks, Alexis! I’ve probably used the playlist more than anyone. I just keep refreshing it and let it run through the songs…and get my happy on. 🙂

    1. So happy to know you were able to enjoy this playlist while lovingly visiting links. (You’re the best!) Thanks for stopping by and lifting my spirits, as always, with your sweet comment.

  1. Lucky winner! 🙂 I’m jealous now! 🙂 just kidding! nope not kidding! OK,OK enough about my feelings 🙂 your list is great but the ROCKY song is the best; I love it, I used to run with this song 🙂 (so sorry Lauren, I haven’t been blogging lately so I haven’t been keeping an eye on my inbox every day!) I hope you are having a great Friday 🙂 now, going to read your new posts 😉

    1. Nothing like the soundtrack from Rocky to get you pumped up to exercise (and I need all the motivation I can get!). Have a great weekend, Ingrid! And I’m honored you would spend part of it catching up on your reading at The Thinking Closet.

    1. How sweet is that? I’m glad to know that this list makes you happy…and that “Move it, move it” makes Annabelle so happy! (She’s got some great taste in music.)

  2. You created a YouTube playlist. Amazing! All of the songs mentioned made me want to do a little booty shaking just by reading the titles! I’ll have to listen to the whole playlist when I’m home alone, in order to save myself the embarrassment of being seen dancing around like a fool (not that my husband and our dog aren’t already used to that…)

    1. Ha ha! I’m glad to know that some Thalita booty-shakin’ is on the docket for later…wish I could join you and your household for a spontaneous dance party! Boy, wouldn’t that be fun?

    1. Aw. Well, YOU made my day with this sweet comment! Glad to be able to share this fun music with others…so thanks for listening. (And for the pin love!)

  3. Great songs!! Love all of them and found myself bopping my head and singing along as I scrolled down each one. 🙂 (And…nice bit of trivia for you — all the Snoopy/Peanut Cartoon songs were composed by Vince Guaraldi! 🙂 )
    Kenley

    1. Yes, thanks for the reminder about dear Vince! Must go back in and edit the post to give him proper credit. 😉 And I’m glad to know you enjoyed these beats. I had a hunch you would!

    1. Aw! Wish I could join you and your boys with that dance party. That sounds like oh so much fun! #coolestmomever

  4. Madagascaaaaar!
OMG! One of the best movies ever!!

“Always smile and wave…!” (Don’t how they say it in the original movie, but you maybe recognize which scene I mean.) It’s the best scene besides the seagulls in Nemo “Mine mine mine mineeee!”

(Ahemm, yes, I am a Pixar Film. That’s why I was in the Pixar exhibit last friday!)

    Love, Midsmmarflicka

      1. Ha ha! I love your enthusiasm about Madagascar! Okay, this is a little bit embarrassing, but I’ve actually never seen it! Eek! So, I’m totally in the dark on the scene you’re referencing (oh, the shame)…but don’t worry, I went to the YouTube to see the scene. I’ll have to add it to our Netflix queue, especially after the enthusiastic response it has gotten today. And how was the Pixar exhibit? As out-of-this-world-amazing as I’m imagining?

        1. Yes! There they are! This is the scene, I meant, and there’s a second one in the very end of the movie… Saying “just smile and wave” have been getting a well-known saying by me so far! Every time it’s getting stressful you can hear me saying that…
          I may be a bit obsessed…… 😉

The exhibit was great and yes, out-of-this-world-amazing, as you’re imaging!! You got to see a lot of sketches and could see how all the figures develop and how the first ones looked and they had small models and two bigger ones, which we were allowed to take pictures of – I have them included here: http://soitwasweekend.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/museum/
We weren’t allowed to take more pictures in the exhibit (but I made this one little video you can see, pssst!), sadly!

          1. Thanks for the link to check out the pics from your tour of the exhibit. How wonderful that they let you take some pics! And I loved the video…which reminds me: I’ve got to get on Vine.

  5. I’m totally envious of the inability to enter. Congrats to the winner! And the I like to move it song – oh Lord my kids love that one. Every time Madagascar is on it becomes a theatrical production.

  6. Congratulations, Tracie!

Lauren, A playlist of happy dance songs is the perfect way to turn a blah Monday into a rip roaring kick off to a new week! Now excuse me as I step away from my computer and start dancing….;)

    1. This comment makes me smile just as wide tonight as it did when I first read it earlier today. You have such a playful spirit, Cindy…I love it.

    1. Once again, Tracie, soooooo thrilled for you! I know that exciting things are in store for you and your new Portrait. Eek! Can’t wait to see all that you create!

  7. What a fun post! Lauren, I love that rather than just having a post to announce a winner and calling it a day, you go the extra mile to give us all a happy dance soundtrack. I hadn’t thought of some of those songs in a long time and enjoyed hearing them all linked together. Thanks for always giving me a smile through your joyful spirit!

    1. I’m happy to know it brought a smile to your face, Jessica, and perhaps even some bopping to your head! I just kept hopping over to YouTube to listen to all of the great song suggestions, and it just struck me: “These are fantastic! Everyone needs to hear them….” And the rest is history. 🙂

    1. How kind are you? And it was a no-brainer to include “I’ve Gotta Feeling” in the mix…it was my theme song a few summers back, and I have fond recollections of many a happy dance to that number! 😉 P.S. I’m excited for what’s in store at thecraftychix.com…. Let me know when it launches!

  8. omg You are just too…awesome…! LOVE the happy dance playlist. Is it weird that I got a little teary-eyed scrolling down that list of songs? I didn’t even listen to them (yet…going to play your massive YouTube playlist as soon as I’m done with this comment), but just reminiscing about those songs as I scrolled down made me so happy! Have you seen Madagascar? I was pretty excited to see that on there. I rented the 3rd one once and it.was.hilarious. I’ve been pretty Madagascar crazy ever since!
I was also just thinking…I don’t even OWN a Silhouette, but I read all of your posts/tutorials, even if they’re about things you can make with a Silhouette! haha. I think that is just a testament to how great of a blogger you are…your posts are so personable, happy and fun enough to read that I don’t even need to come here for the DIY projects, I’m happy enough just coming here for Ms. Lauren. Congrats on building something awesome at The Thinking Closet and on another successful giveaway! Yay!

    1. Your comment made my NIGHT! No, it’s not weird at all that you got teary-eyed looking through the list…music strikes me somewhere deep, as well. So many of the songs in the playlist are connected to childhood memories for me. I probably have a story for each one! And I’m sad to say that I haven’t seen Madagascar yet, but it’s on my Netflix queue now, never fear! (I feel a little bit behind the times on that one. Ha ha.) And you made my heart do a somersault to hear that you read my Silhouette posts just because you enjoy my writing. That floors me, Melyssa. Thank you for building me up yet again with your words of affirmation. I’m soaring on cloud 9 right now thanks to you, girl!

Your comments make my day!
