What Are Your Favorite Romantic Movies?

I love lists.

Christmas lists, shopping lists, to do lists, wish lists, honey do lists, grocery lists, ideas lists…lists-lists-lists!  There’s just something about seeing my thoughts organized in neat bullet points that makes the type A in me very, very happy.  (I know this scares some of you.  Ha, it scares me, too, sometimes!  But stick with me for a sec.)

Now, the list of all lists is the Top Ten List.  I’ve loved them ever since my Mom let me stay up late to watch the beginning of David Letterman’s Late Night show with her (though most of his jokes went way over my head).  Mark and I even structured our Christmas letter this year around Top Ten Lists, which proved to be a really fun way to share about our year (Top Ten Places We Visited, Top Ten Animals That Live on our Lake, etc.).

So, with February around the corner, I thought it’d be fun to create a list of the Top Ten Romantic Movies {of all time}.  I already have a few that I know will make the cut, but I want input from you, dear reader.  What films must, oh must, be included in this list?!

Top Ten Romantic Movies of All Time by The Thinking Closet

A few disclaimers (a.k.a. my excuse to make a list!):

  • Time period is no issue with me.  I grew up watching old black-and-white movies, mostly ones starring Fred Astaire, so I have no bias against the “classics.”  In fact, I might have a bias for them.
  • Also, comedy, drama, dramedy…no matter.
  • And I’ll probably only choose one Meg Ryan / Tom Hanks film, so pick your favorite (if you’d even pick that at all).

Bottom line: what films make your heart swoon?

If you’d be so kind, fill out the form below to send your feedback to me personally rather than responding in the comments (so as to keep the results a surprise).  Whether you can think of one film or ten, any and all input is appreciated.  And feel free to submit your feedback more than once.  As ideas come, send them my way.  And I’ll be sure to share my list with y’all in the coming weeks before Valentine’s Day, so look out.

Thanks in advance for your help on this.  🙂

-Lauren

  1. So I’m spending some very-much missed time catching up on “the thinking closet” and here’s where my tardiness nips me in the butt. It’s too late to submit my choices! But I look forward, as I continue my catch up, to see the final ones that made the cut! And just skimming through the comments, I also forgot about Ever After! I have fond memories of watching that with you and cousin Amanda. Danielle de’Barbarac! 🙂

    1. Yes! You two immersed yourself in that film one summer, if I do recall correctly. There were some memorable scenes!

Danielle: A bird may love a fish, Signore, but where would they live?
Leonardo da Vinci: Then I shall just have to build you wings!

  2. Last of the Mohicans
    Dances with wolves
    Sound of music
    Gone with the wind
    When Harry met Sally
    Harold and Maude
    Valley girl

      1. City of angels, the notebook, dirty dancing, notting hill, ghost, pearl harbor, love story, bridget jones’s diary, bodyguard, message in a bottle.

          1. Thanks, Aubrey. You are a movie maven, so your opinion means a lot! My list is growing and growing…so I know I’m going to have to slash and burn some faves to keep to just 10.

  3. Just submitted mine!! I’m a different generation so it will be interesting to see if any of mine are included by others….I should have included Doctor Zhivago! A great choice~

  4. Oh so many to choose from! Here are the few I can think of for now…
She’s All That (so cheesy) – Doctor Zhivago – Love, Actually – Ever After (I can’t help it, a good Cinderella story gets me every time!) – Pretty Woman – Bridget Jones’ Diary. That’s all I have for the time being 🙂

  5. How fun! I love lists too!! We have lists upon lists upon lists. And now I am loving formatting our annual Christmas letter into a Top Ten list! 🙂 Going to think about my submissions of movies and get a reply to you in the form.

    1. So neat that you do the Top Ten List for your Christmas letter each year! Very fun. Will look forward to receiving your feedback on the movies. As the responses roll in, I’m getting so many good ones, I know it’s going to be a challenge to keep it to ten!

  6. What a great idea, Lauren! I’m going to think about it and return to fill out the form later. Just had to say I’m with you on the lists. I like them so much that occasionally on a stressful day I add things to my to do list that are technically already finished so I can cross them off for a sense of accomplishment! Hmm, reading that makes me wonder if I have a list problem!

    1. Ha ha! I do that, too. Sometimes, I just need the satisfaction of crossing something off (because most days, I don’t accomplish half of what I set out to…but I figure if I wasn’t making lists, I’d be even MORE unproductive). 😉

  7. Gone with Wind, Titantic, Bridges of Madison County, Message in a Bottle, Sleepless in Seattle, A Walk to Remember, Doctor Zhivago, Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Notebook.
