I’m a Blog Angel: The Big Reveal

My career as an angel began long, long ago.  Back in 1987 to be exact.  In truth, most little girls between the ages of 3 and 6 are type-cast as angels for their church Christmas pageant, and I was no exception.  Here are a few snapshots I found of my first angel gig when looking through old albums during our time in New York this Christmas:

Even then, I would stick my tongue out when REALLY concentrating.

Now, check out my 7th grade Halloween costume:

Inspired by the 1994 classic Disney film starring Christopher Lloyd & Danny Glover..though “classic” may be an overstatement.

Now, years later, I get to play the role of an angel again, but this time, with typing fingers as wings.  As you may recall, I’ve been a part of a fun initiative established by Rosie from Craftbotic called Blog Angels.  Basically, I got to help another blogger out in secret, without expecting anything in return and without appearing too stalkerish.  (Or so I tried.)

So, who was it?  I’m so glad you asked because today is the day for the big reveal.  The blogger who I have been trying to secretly help is…drumroll…

Christine from Decorum DIYer
Three cheers for Christine!  Hip, hip….

Christine and I “met” through my post on 10 Tips for New Bloggers…From a New Blogger last month.  She and I emailed back and forth about ideas for her blog, and a blogger buddy-ship was forged!  Pretty quickly, Christine became one of my top commenters (literally, after my Mom and sister, Christine is my top commenter), and then, she made my month in November by nominating me for a Liebster Award.  The woman is about as sweet as they come!  As I’ve gotten to know her, I’ve learned that she’s an incredible Mom, wife, and creative…and not only is she a gifted writer, but she’s got a sense of humor to boot!

I also feel a kindredness to Christine because we share so many things in common.  In fact, Christine joked with me that the scar on my cheek might have been evidence that we were twins, separated at birth.  Here are just a few of the things we have in common: we’re both teachers; we love musical theatre, dance, laughter, “A Wrinkle in Time,” the 1960s, cats, and “A Christmas Story;” we share an appreciation for puns; we’re both perfectionists (and working on it); and we have a shared experiences of having wild animals running around in our house….so, yeah.  Twins!

Of course it was a no-brainer choosing to “look after” Christine during this December edition of Blog Angels.  Here’s what I’ve been up to in secret:

  • Commenting on all of her recent posts (and some of her older ones)
  • Trying to be encouraging and uplifting in my comments
  • Following her through every means possible.  Bloglovin’, Facebook, Pinterest….
  • Noting a problem she was having on FB and trying to research the answer to help her out – – sharing links to articles that could answer her question
  • Commenting on her Facebook posts
  • Adding her to my blogroll on my sidebar
  • “Stumbling upon” her posts
  • Nabbing her a handful of Facebook likes from my fellow blog angels {thanks, ladies!}
  • Sending a few personal emails to her in hopes of brightening her day

I hope you take a moment to visit Christine over at Decorum DIYer.  Her post titles alone are well worth your time…but be prepared, you may get a few songs stuck in your head.  Here are a few of her posts I highly recommend:

  • Rock Liebster: fun facts about Christine.
  • A Nod to Nautical:  Christine does a series called “Moodboard Mondays” where she shares her vision for decorating a room using paint, items she finds for free, and Craigslist only.  I know she pours so much thought, effort, and time into these posts.  They’re masterpieces!  I seriously think she should have her own show on HGTV where she re-designs people’s rooms using moodboards.  The “nautical” post was her first Moodboard post.
  • Schooooool’s Out For-e-ver! Part I & Part II: Christine thrifts with the best of them and found some amazing pieces at a sale held at a Catholic school that had closed their doors.  Gawk at the fun pieces she found.
  • Who is the Decorum DIYer: more about Christine.
  • Decorum DIYer on Facebook: with one click, help Christine reach her goal of 100 likes on Facebook!

Christine, you rock!  I hope this made you smile.

Click here to check out some of the reveal posts by my fellow December Blog Angels.  There are a lot of really incredible bloggers out there with hearts the size of Times Square.

If you’re interested in joining the February edition of blog angels, keep an eye out out for the sign-up on Craftbotic on January 15th.

How about you: have you ever been a secret angel to someone else or suspected you had been cared for by an angel?  I’d love to hear your angel stories….

This is Lauren, signing off.

  1. Thanks for introducing me to Decorum DIYer! I also liked her on FB and can’t wait to get to know her blog (and her) better! I echo Mor mor and Pop pop…you’re my angel too! xo

  2. Thanks for revealing for whom you were a blog-angel! I liked Christine’s FB page and checked out all of the posts you mentioned. I really like mood-Mondays and might even ask for her feedback on our bathroom renovation. The school sale and items she and her husband picked up were really unique and vintage.

Loved the series of pictures of you dressed up as an angel and posted the link to this post on my FB page hoping some of the others in the pageant would see themselves, too–and also check out your and Christine’s blogs!

Exciting to see how blogging is such a supportive community! Happy New Year!!

    1. Thanks for showing her support on her FB page! And that’s a great idea to ask her to make a moodboard for you for your bathroom renovation. If she has time for it, I’m sure she’d do a fantastic job. You might leave her a comment on her post, and see what she thinks!

Yes, blogland has proven to be WAY more supportive than I ever anticipated. Who knew?

  3. I had a feeling!!! Being a follower already of Christine’s and then yours… I put two and two together! 🙂 Job well done blog angel!

  4. Lauren, you are truly an angel. (Speaking of songs stuck in one’s head…”Earth Angel”, anyone?) I was suspicious of your constant support, but very appreciative. I just thought you had a ton of free time (in the middle of the night). I am truly blessed to have you as my blog angel. I must admit this month (December) has been a bit tough for me in so many ways, hence my lack of posts and activity. Each comment, e-mail, and now THIS, has made my day, each and every day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I think you just may have revitalized my still heart with your kindness and unending selflessness.

    1. Ha ha! I am a bit of a night owl…so much of my “secret work” was done in the wee hours. But I had so much fun. I know it has been a tough month for you, which made it feel all the more fitting that I had the opportunity to send some bloggy love your direction. You’ve been such a constant encouragement to me, it’s nice to be able to encourage you, Christine. Hugs!

    1. Ha ha! Thanks. I really see a resemblance to my adult self in the one where I’m chowing down on some goodies. My eyes are totally saying, “Don’t bother me. I’m eating.” I still give that look! Especially when sweets are involved….

      1. Yes, can’t tell if you’re wanting to be left alone or annoyed you were “caught” grabbing a brownie or tired or all of the above! 🙂

  5. Awww it sounds like you have been a fantastic angel! A huge well done! Christine has been lucky to have you watching out over her 😀 I’m going to keep an eye open for the next cycle of angels for sure xxx
